Do need to port my head, aiming for 500ish whp
I have an evo 4 that i am going to pull off the road and start a build on soon. I have been planing and reserching as much as i can all the things I need/ want to do. The car will not be daily driven, more of a weekend toy and basicly im looking at getting 500whp on built 2l with gt35r turbo and prob water/meth injection as i need to stay on pump gas. Do i realistly need to get head ported to make this power do do evo heads flow well enough to make that power easy? I do know that idealy you would port but after finding out that it costs more than i thought it would i would like to spend that money in other areas. Basicly for 500whp "realisticly" being the key word do you need to get the head ported. BTW i will be using aftermarket intake and obviousy exhaust mainfolds. Cheers in advance for and answers and sorry as this is proberly a dumb question haha.
Nope, you dont need to port your head at all i made 680 and have couple of friends making over 750whp without porting their heads, just do cams, springs, retainers and if you want the lifters not need to do lifters if you dont want is not necessary.
There's plenty of people making 500awhp on pump and stock motors (me being one of them). As long as you have a good cam, you shouldn't have a problem. Depending on your gas quality, you could even hit your goal without meth.
thanks for replys, i didnt think i needed a port job for my power goal but just want to be sure as this is the first project car for me. Also the best pump fuel i can get is 98 RON octane

Just beware of possible "hotspots" created when the temps get extreme like they normally would when the engine gets high boost, high horsepower...

Hey mate I am also in NZ and have an evo 4 that i am building for 500whp but as a daily lol, the only difference as im at the end of my build and just waiting on a couple things then a tune.
Every builder in NZ not the US will tell you that you need it, but i only have stage 1 on a evo 4 head, realistically for long term you want a evo 8 head with some porting. But not needed.
Though i have a stroker 2.3L and have spent around 25-30k just on the mods not including buying the bloody thing, my mate has a evo 3 2L with 500whp and he has spent about 8k on the head alone so stroke your engine and go with a evo 5 bottom end haha
