Sensible upgrades aiming for 400Whp?

So I'm currently planning to take the plunge and upgrade my Evo VIII MR. Been doing a little reading and asking around and so far these are the upgrades I've been considering. I'll also list what's already on the car.

Getting:
1. FP Red Turbo (clearly with the oil line kit) [I'm kinda weird in that I don't mind a little turbo lag, in fact I like it as soon as when the turbo DOES really kick it Feels awesome!]

2. Precision 880 injectors
3. HKS SSQ V3 Blow Off
4. AEM UEGO Wideband
5. ARP Head Studs

What's already on the car:

- HKS 264 Cams
- Walbro 255
- Manual Boost controller
- Trust Exhaust

My GOAL is for 400WHP on pump gas, daily driven. Really don't want to use Meth.
So my question is basically does what I have listed look like it could yield 400WHP with a good tune or are there any ESSENTIALS that would make this target more likely?

bro....save your money on all this FP hype.... FP Reds are probably awesome, but if you dont mind a little lag...and its not bad at all, just get a used gt30r from somebody on here... Trust me, it kicks.

uhh, you you can cut down costs by going with a IX MR Blow off from someone on here too. Reason I say this is because your going to need a good clutch... And not that ACT P.O.S I mean a really good twin... and that costs as you already know. That stocky wont hold for long...TRUST ME

You will also need more money for a transfer case...alot of ppl dont think about this...but having your transfer case lock up on the highway isnt fun...i know..and im only running 420 to the wheels

Other than that...looks pretty good! Good luck with your build bro!

Incidentally I have an exedy 4 puck kit installed (which i HATE). So I was looking to swap that out to something a little more....traffic friendly. But for now in terms of a clutch I think that should be ok.

In terms of the turbo. Wish I had discovered/used EVOM long before. I've already gotten the Red (sorta). In the process of getting it sent to FP to be rebuilt.

Never thought about the replacing the transfer case however.....

Thanks for the advice man. As a n00b, any and all help is REALLY appreciated.

With a good tune, your current mods should be putting down good numbers. Enjoy the project! I agree about the clutch, this is very important.

I couldnt say what is a safe hp for the transfer case to hold....but i can tell you...alot of ppl think it holds great, but give it 20 maybe 30 thousand miles and its gonna give...same with the stock clutch...

My friend bought an ACT clutch and experienced really bad lock out at 7k.... I told him not to rev that high anymore..he didnt listen and had to buy a new tranny!

Point is....Everyone i roll with makes 400+ and have had major issues with the drive train... Sh*t one summer I had to put 3k on it alone just to fix it

Please dont put bad ideals in his head thedark20. he does not need a TC build based on his whp goal. TC really is dependant on how he drives and does he launch alot etc. just driving around normally and some minor sprited driving does not equal new TC thats 1500-2000 right there. THERE are PLENTY and i mean PLENTY of HIGH WHP evos that still have the same TC they had since day one no rebuild. IF anything before the TC you need a built tranny but again not at 400whp goal. Also 30r are comparible to fp reds. OP there is nothing wrong with the fp red it will exceed your small goal you are looking for with Faster Spool. here is a nice path to 400+whp

93oct 380-470

Ported fp Red
ported exhaut manifold
Ported ebay ss o2 housing or megan housing
3"TBE
Testpipe
Ported intake manifold (optional)
Ported Throttle body(65mm)(optional)
Intercooler pipes
Aftermarket air intake
3.5 Intercooler
1000cc injectors(you can use lower in your case but i personally would not go below 1000)
Walbro 255 fuel pump
APS TWIN VENT BOV(proven to hold 42psi)(you can keep stocker DV in your case)
kelfod 272 or S2 Camshafts, fp 4r, HKS 272
Arp headstuds(done correctly not 1x1 method)(optional for your power goals)
Exedy Twin HD clutch
30-30 Boost guage
Innovative or AEM wideband guage
tune(30psi) you will not need 30psi to get 400 of course

Thanks for the info, a few quick questions on the suggestions.

1. I'm gonna be sending the turbo to FP to rebuilt, i was debating if it was worth getting it ported. Reason being it's very unlikely that I'm going to be getting EVERYTHING else ported, and I've read that its not that much 'better' if just the turbo that's ported. So the question is, does it make sense to still get the Red ported?

2. I found a no name ported O2 housing on eBay for under $60, and I found a Megan O2 housing for $110 or so, which would make more sense to go with? (it's not likely that I'd be able to get the Megan ported)
- Ported O2 Housing (just as a side note, this isnt the DUMP that makes that horrible noise is it??)

3. Which Air Intake would you recommend?

Again, thanks for the info.

Some good info in here. I, also, am looking for a 400 awhp goal..preferably this year, but as soon as my wallet lets me i guess HAHA!

I'm sitting 314 awhp @ 20psi right now with a handful of mods :-)

Rockman, thanks for laying out that list. Gives a good base to work off of and research on.

Good luck to you Jag!

no problem im here to help i remember when i was first starting searching and all is good but sometimes people can give you more insight as to why you buying a certain part or NEWER or older parts that function better. NOT all this bigger is better crap that you hear or this company is the best talk. so questions just ask i have list for all types of hp goals in mind.

EBAY SS PORTED O2 HOUSING IS WHAT I HAVE ITS BEEN PROVEN TO MAKE POWER OVER THE REST. 65 SHIPPED LOL. NOW THERE IS ANEW INVIDIA HOUSING THAT A TRUE 3" RECIRCULATING THATS BETTER BUT I HAVE NOT SEEN DATA ON IT YET.
3. Which Air Intake would you recommend? LOTS AND LOTS OF CHOICES HERE REALLY DEPENDS ON WHAT INTERCOOLER PIPPING SYSTEM YOU GET ETS BUSCHUR AMS INJEN NEISI MUSE. LOTS OF CHOICES JUST HAVE TO LOOK THEM UP.
Again, thanks for the info.

My brother makes over 600whp on a 35r with e85. His stock tcase / transmission have been holding up fine for a couple months now. Lots of roll racing, a few stops, and some passes down the drag strip.

Run it till it breaks.

if you find a good deal on a built tranny and TC and you have the funds consider them but not even something close to near the top of the mod list unless your having tranny tc issue from buying a used evo type deal

Im not trying to **** on anyones day or anything, I'm just letting him know what comes with a high horsepower build. Coming from reliable experience since I have personally been through the ups and downs. Dont put high hp into somebodys mind without telling them what usually happens.

Yeah the tcase doesnt go out immediately, but give it time. I know this......DO YOU.

Anyways, to the original op, good luck building your evo. Just remember the important stuff too

sorry but 400whp is nothing dude thats average evo numbers sorry. TC will eventually go out but again its not something he needs to spend 2000 on getting right now nor is a built tranny unless his evo is having issues of that nature off the bat. When you buying a used evo you never know what condition its truely in. My evo had alot of little issues when i bought it and i found myself replacing alot of things finally i just got tired of it and PULLED the whole engine bay out and im not using anything from the old motor period not even the tranny as of tomorrow when my built one comes in. The only thing orginal i have on my car is the doors sunroof and TC.
