WRX MY11 v evo IX

so guys i still havnt decided but for value for money the price of the WRX MY11 has now come down in value to the same or even less then a 2006 Evo9, you can also get luxury pacs with leather and satnav and a sun roof and what you get in the evo 9 is a raw edgy but getting old turbo car. For some reason my heart keeps going back to the Evo with its cast iron block and room for a tune where the WRX makes me feel like its a ticking bomb with a tune without forged internals ready to pop on a track day....

should i still go after an evo or settle for a modern REX?

Go with the evo IX. I owned both cars and prefer my evo over my MY11 STi.

Go with the Evo if you are going track days. I have friends with WRX's and while they are nice- once you start bumping the power and or tracking them, they don't seem as robust as an Evo.

you are in an evo forum man!! of course go for the evo you cant get a better car bang for buck. obviously its a different class but maybe a z06 equates in the bang for buck category. do you really care whether it has leather? isn't that just extra weight? Im saying this because im selling my evo and im really sad about it lol I am not going to be able to buy a better car to replace it with. heck its even faster than e46 m3

there is really no fair comparison between the two, IMO, if you plan to mod the engine and go around a track.

When I look at the amount of money I'll have to pay to replace my 02 WRX engine and get it anywhere near 400HP i'm really disheartened. I'm just waiting for it to pop and stick me in a big money pit. And that's not even talking about what I'd need to pay to get it to handle nearly as well as a stock Evo.

The Evo on the other hand?

It's so utterly intoxicating... the speed of the steering rack, the power, the confidence, with GTWorx springs, Bilstein HDs Whiteline bushings and RSB, michelin pilot super sport 245/40/17s on stock wheels the way it brakes, rotates and snaps into line out of the corner, the whoosh of the open intake, the momo steering wheel, the leather recaros, the 5 speed... oh yeah and a dead reliable 400/350 AWHP/TQ on the stock block that will run for 300K miles when properly tuned and maintained.

I will NEVER sell this car, it is simply delicious.

thanks brother, I think you just set my mind straight, I've been looking for a while and theres alot of late model REXs for sale that have made my mind wander with all their bling.....but I have fallen in love with the Evo from my test drives and I think I know I'll end up with one

I owned a 2012 WRX. Fun car to daily drive but the EJ25 is garbage. While they may not crack ringlands at the pace the STI does they still have their share of engine issues. I have tracked both cars and the Evo is a true multirole track and street car. The WRX is solely a street car. It has oiling issues under hard cornering, bad brakes and a nasty habit of knocking on the stock tune. I dumped mine at 23k on the clock once the notorious cylinder 4 misfire started popping up. My 2003 Evo on the other hand has been dead reliable even though it sees track duty and daily driving. I am almost at 100k and the only real issue I have had was the stock clutch going out.

Do yourself a favor and find a well taken care of Evo. Dont even consider the WRX for track duty unless you want to replace engines every year.

For your needs I agree, Evo 100% .
Subarus all have the same issues and they will be particularly bad for someone who wants to drive the car like you do. You don't want your track car to have a reputation of weak motors and oiling issues.

I actually own a 2013 WRX and EVO IX.

The WRX is taken every day for working/commute, the the EVO is taken to every autoX, drag, or road race event that I do. For what it's worth.
