Evo Theft

Well, briefly, my evo was burglarized while it sat outside of the body shop. They were confronted by a security guard but made off with both front seats, both tail lights, and a headlight.

The police examined and fingerprinted the car, but apparently no leads. If there is resolution, I will post it here.

This happened in Va Beach, VA, so if anyone should come across these parts for sale in the Hampton Roads, VA area (a.k.a tidewater, a.k.a Hampton-Newport News-Suffolk-Portsmouth-Norfolk-Chesapeake-Va Beach) or similar parts for sale on Ebay (or a honda sporting Evo recaros), pm me or post it.

Thanks, I appreciate your help.

I am not sure what people would want with the tail lights....odd.

Sorry to hear about this! But I guess that since the car was in the body shops care, their insurance will be paying to replace your losses.

Sorry to hear that happened!! But if it was in the body shops care their insurance should cover it or at least replace the parts that were stolen for you! Also what was it doing outside, when I worked at a bodyshop all cars would be put away for the night so that wouldn't happen at all!

Have them tack weld the front seat bolts to the seat frame when they replace things. A little weld will go a long way in making sure your seats never get stolen again!

Had a look see...

Well, I went and looked at it over lunch. Apparently they have to replace the igntion, the seats, the tail lamps, and the driver's door card. Looks like they had to jimmy around to get in, necessitating the door card replacement. Then they tried to hotwire it, requiring the ignition lock to be fixed. They also said that the intercooler was lying on the ground when the security guard got to it.

Yes, the parts were already being ordered when I was called (apparently I wasn't immediately notified), and they are going to handle replacing the stolen items.

The car was supposed to be pulled into the garage each night, but this one time the guy in charge of that left early and it didn't happen.

In light of all of this, I am going to ask for a rental car for the difference in repair time caused by the theft. Do you think that would be justified?

Thanks again for your support!

Yes it is, find out there insurance carrier if not they have to pay for it out of pocket!!! Or, if you were in already for something else, your insurance can get an extention for a rental (if you have one already) since it is going to take longer than expected! Its their fault not yours! You left your property in there care (regardless if it was a book, car, house, etc) and trusted they would take care of it! So, they have to replace or at least give you net worth of what was stolen! Good Luck and hope this works out for you!

Had a brush with some brush due to ice on the exit ramp (oil : water :: advan : ice). The driver's side mirror came off, big dent in the rear driver's side door, lots of scraping. Passenger's side was unharmed.

Bad deal

Well, when I went to look at the car, the service manager was at another location and so I had them leave him a note with instructions to call me. I missed his call, and he had left a message telling me to call MY insurance company and get a claim going with them so that the BODY SHOP could get the work started. Needless to say, I am more than a little upset. I have never had a good experience with this dealership. So much for second chances...

If you are talking about the rental car yes!! If you are talking about the parts that were stolen,NO, actually its not to be claimed with your insurance, cause if you do your rates are going to go up!! Its there insurance you have to claim it to! They have to be responsibl for your lose not the other way around! It was on their property not yours! And if they do try to tag it to your insurance you should make sure that you let your insurance company know that it was in the care of the dealership/bodyshop so they can collect from their insurance!!!!

Everyone who gots a Evo should really buy some seat locks. They are like wheel locks but just for your seats. Our recaros are really prime targets for theft. The dealership I bought my Evo had couple of there Evos broken into and had the seats and steering wheel ripped out.

Did the security guard just watch them run off with a couple of Recaros? Was he an old man security guard in houseshoes? He couldn't give chase or get a description?

Can you post a link to where we can find some good locks?
