Based off appearance, yes the Amber color is in a different location between the two. I read the Amber housings between the two are slightly different size making a swap of the housing(Amber part only) a bit of work. Most people paint the housing instead(USDM one to give JDM look). Also the projector are angled different, so a JDM headlight(if not adjusted) might blind oncoming traffic in the USA.

Nope sorry this is not possible. The USDM NON-HID housing is not compatible with JDM headlights.

1. The USDM NON-HID housing has a block off at the fog-light.
2. The USDM HID headlight does not have a block-off but does not fit the JDM amber lense.
3. JDM housings are a different design this is why the JDM amber lense can only fit with JDM headlight housings.

Yes you are right the JDM 9 black chrome housing is the same color as a black chrome USDM housing. I have the parts to prove it.

The following USDM headlights are the ones that I know of that will have the same color housing as the JDM Evo 9 headlight.

USDM NON-HID Evo IX headlights
USDM HID Evo IX MR headlights

so only difference between jdm 9 and usdm is the location of the amber marker?

also, as far as the up-down functionality that the USDM MR's have with the headlights, does that still work after you swap? Was curious about how to mount the ballasts going from USDM HIDs to the JDM light as well...
