Lost the key

Hello everyone,

Today was a bad day. Some Ahole stole my only keye to my Evo 9 out of my daily driver car. What do you guys suggest I do as far as where to get a key? am I screwd and have to go to the dealer and get riped off and have all the locks replaced? And does anybody know how much the dealer charges for that kind of a service? Any help and suggestion is appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Go to the dealer with proof of ownership.
Tell them you want the key code.
Take the key code and go to the locksmith.
A reputable locksmith should be able to help.

This is your best route.
If you don't have a key it makes it that much harder to have a locksmith do their work.
Is your immobilized on in your ECU?

Look in evoscan.

Go to a Locksmith but probably your best bet is get a key cut by code at the dealer than go to a Locksmith. It isn't going to be cheap.

book your car into the dealer, get them to check for the key code, either get them to replace it or go to the lock smith, new locks if you want to be more secure. Dont fool around if someone has a key to your car, would you rather get ripped off by the dealer or lose your car? In the mean time you could get one of those steering crook locks that clamp across your steering wheel for a bit more security. You might also be able to call lock smiths and see if any of them have an answer to key replacement at a cheaper price then your dealer. There are options just explore them, might also be an idea to get a good alarm. Just dont lose your car while you muck around trying to save money

So today I called Mitsubishi to see how I can get a keye. The labor is $75, key cutting fee is $30, the keye itself is $63.69. They told me I have to go with proof of ownership to the dealer to get the codes. Once I get the codes I have to go to a locksmith to make a key so that I can open my doors. Once I have the doors open I have to to tow the car to the dealer so they can change/program the codes so that the car can start. I asked them what will happen if the person who stole the keys comes back, they said they will be able to get in to your car but the car won't start. That's reassuring. So they can't steal the car, but everything inside it if for grabs lol.

Oh and does anybody know where I can get a cheap blank key? And will the dealer cut it for me if I don't buy it from them?

If you have a locksmith come out they can get in the car for you and then relay your doors.
The issue is the ignition cylinder. In order to rekey it you have to use a key or pick it to the right position to remove the ignition cylinder. Once it is out you can take it apart and rekey that as well. Then you have to deal with transponder issue.
A locksmith will always be cheaper than the dealer but make sure you go to a decent locksmith. Some Locksmiths will have the equipment to do it and some won't.
Most dealers use a locksmith to do this anyway.

FWIW if the person knows Evo's it's easy to flash a new tune to the car that disables the immobilizer.

Just food for thought on not re-keying the car
