The old man in the yellow evo should be replacing his clutch at 60000 to 100000 miles.

In Engineering and design, there is what is none as a safety factor (over building for the use). This is where the Evo's OEM clutch lacks. With proper safety factor built in, the hard driver gets 36000 miles and the normal driver gets near 100,000 miles. Dont blame it ALL on the DRIVER!! Put some blame where the fault is. You didn't see these problems on the DSM's. The were designed with the proper safety factor for the HP that the cars where making.

There has never been cars this race prepped and designed. If you thought you bought a Honda - sorry

Well by me, i don't think the evo or sti are very popular, most people drive trucks or civics with loud exhausts . The dealer has only moved one sti and has 2 sitting on the lot and has sold 2 out of 3 evos that they had gotten. They only sell evos by order now because they have had the same one on the lot since they came out. The deposit is probably non-refundable because they want to make sure that they don't have it laying around if i change my mind.

Hate to be off topic again. But, this car is not race prepped and designed. It has alot of nice features that in most cars would be aftermarket parts (i.e. Racaro seats, momo steering wheel, HID lights etc.) If it where race preped it would have a bullet proof clutch or at least strong enought to hold up to 273 ft lbs. of torque..

How many times have you seen cars in SCCA racing stop during the middle of the race because of a slipping clutch???? Not much!! GET REAL!!!

I have never owned a Honda and probably never will unless it where to be an NSX. I do however drive a 660 rwhp Supra as well as a "RACE PREPED EVO 8. What a joke.

Huge 4th to 5th drop?? I dissagree. I think all five gears a perfectly spaced. A 6 speed in a performance car is a novelty. I'll take great gear spacing over having 1 more gear any day. I'm with you on the undertray

I really wish they would add cruise control to the 2004 Evo. That would be a very nice option. Any news on that?

Unfortunately, if you have looked at the gear ratios for the 6MT, they are not terribly different than what we have now. They are a bit closer spaced, but the 6th gear is an actual useable gear and not an overdrive gear.

As for underbody aero, not even JDM models get those. The Japanese have reserved the best for themselves (as history has shown) and if their domestic models don't get it, we sure as hell won't get them here either.

Same with the colors. This isn't so much a problem with Mitsu USA, it's Mitsu Japan. The colors we got are the same colors offered on the Evo7. All your posts seem to be knocking on something about the Evo... you and all the other MR fanboys need to just calm down and chill out.

Ron, which track are you running ( I'm assuming someplace on the west caost) that the 4th to 5th gear spread doesn't lead to everyone pulling past you?

Knocking? uh ok. I just see room for improvement in an exceptional car. If you aren't ok with the car not being perfect, sorry. They did a great job but there is certianly some simple improvements which would make it nearly flawless. Improved gauages is another. Stock they are horrible to read..

I still think it is probably one of the best 4 door sedans ever... But one that can still improve.. Cruise Control, 6 speed, Sequential Manual Transmission, Under body Aero panels.. (Skyline/G35 esque), Usable Guages, Front LSD..

It's not like they don't have the means to add these easily..

I do agree with you, I'm not saying the car is perfect. I'm sorry if I came across a bit harsh but I feel like people have been beating a dead horse. When the specs of the US Evo were first released, people complained. With 2004, people are still complaining. I mean, there is always something better, there is always something to improve upon.

There was a huge uproar about the whole ACD/AYC when the car came out (for those of that were around) but the issue has since died... it's not to say that we wouldn't want ACD/SAYC, and I'm sure Mitsu knows that we do (whatever happened to mothership? he heard all of our complaints), but even so there may be other reasons keeping it from coming. Emissions electronics kept the AYC from being fit in. Dunno about the ACD though.

The gauges are ok - they can get a tad difficult to read in very sunny conditions but otherwise I like them. There are a lot of things I could go on and on about.. ACD/SAYC, 6MT, front LSD, actual effective leg bolsters (sorry, these US spec seats just feel a bit loose) on the Recaros, the JDM rear bumper, the 2DIN option, interior accessories (we're missing so many of them) etc.

I am sure that Mitsu is aware that we want this stuff. The issue has been beat over and over again on these forums. I don't mean you in particular, but there are a few individuals who can't seem to just let it go. Especially with the RS conversations, there's always somebody jumping in to bash the RS and say something or other about how Mitsu should bring the MR. I think it is safe to say that many of us would like the MR if they brought it -- I'm just sick and tired of hearing people complain about it on every thread.

Just my .02.

BTW, you might have a better chance petitioning SMT and cruise control with Mitsu Japan. Somehow I doubt that Mitsu USA will have any control over those options. Under body aero... I think the design of the 3" exhaust (it sticks out way too low) doesn't really allows for a true under body aero. The rear diffuser is very possible though.

I don't think there would be enough folks to warrant a pettition, as mentioned everyone is too quick to belittle anything other than what they have.. But the more options we get the better it is for everyone.. The current USDM GSR, The soon to be RS, and the hopeful MR. Bring em all and then some more. It only gets better for all of us.

But sadly the big mistakes in the Evo are lack of cruise control, even the most inexpensive cars have that as an option. and Selling an 2003 Car nealry 4 months into 2004.. Those are nearly unforgivable and are costing them.. But hopefully they will resolve those soon.
