now, i know you work for the dealer... but i dont believe those prices.
don't believe me them....i gave the freakin part number so you can check it out yourself. If you have your mits dealer look it up guess what will happen? the same thing will come up. This is just a retail price...it is not really what people paid for them when they bought the car. If you don't believe me I work for subaru too...i noticed you have a wrx...an STI wing is about 500-600 bucks. Don't believe me go ask your subaru dealer.
So what's the dealer profit mark-up on replacement parts?
Before I bought my 2003, I priced out Recaro ErgoMed DS seats with all the bells and whistles: heat, adjustable side bolsters, adjustable lumbar support. They ran just under $2500 each, complete.
Sounds like going to a Recaro dealer for Recaro seats is better than going to a Mitsu dealer for 'em.

I think it's very small. As a employee for another car company I get parts at cost and usually it's only about 10 percent. It depends on the item, of course. I think markup is higher on consumables like oil filters and brake pads, since they can expect to sell them pretty regularly, but if car companies didn't have to deal with maintaining an inventory of bulky items like seats that customers are unlikely to order, they wouldn't. It's just not worth the hassle, not enough cars are wrecked as a percentage of sales to really look at it from a profitability perspective.
Totally agree that buying them aftermarket is the way to go. AFAIK the brackets are identical and our seats don't have anything proprietary like side airbags to complicate the decision. Also if you're not a fat *** the aftermarket seats have more aggressive lower bolstering.

Leather Seats
I found these pictures on the European Mitsubishi web site. The Evo 8 that is sold in Europe uses the same cloth seats as the US version, so I bet that it's safe to say that the leather seats will be the same also. Go here http://www.mitsubishi-motors-europe.com/ and click on the red Evo.

That's weird. I know the UK ones all have the JDM seats, with better leg bolsters than what we get here. And they get climate controls too. Ahhhh I wish we had all these interior accessories...

I dont know why everyone has this leather fixation I always looked at it as a limitation and cost adder that defeated and toned down the true nature of high performance cars. Nothing cool about having your *** sliding around in a Viper or cornering at 1G in a EVO
