350whp not safe?

I've been shooting for 350whp on my 01 VII GSR, but I talked to my mechanic about it (he specialises in evos) and he told me that the engine can't handle that much power on stock internals. He actually took me over to 4G63 that he was rebuilding cause the owner had broken a conrod.

Is 350whp really unsafe for stock internals?
how come I see so many people running 350whp on this site with only bolt on mods and no engine mods?

Sorry, but I disagree, that's really no sweat for the stock 4G63 internals to handle on a dailey basis. My old JESTR tuned FP Red setup ran fine for the few years I had it over 450hp and over a year for the next owner too until I lost contact with him.

I really feel like the evo is at its best in that 400-500hp range; do you have any other trusted shops in your area that you can talk to?

This is THE evo place in my area. I got told this same thing about power on stock internals by a guy that wrecks evos which is why I decided to ask my mechanic. So its conflicting stories for me at the moment. Though I do trust this site a bit more since I've gotten a lot of good advice here especially in regards to self tuning.
We were talking in terms of kw and he said 260awkw is where its unsafe. Unless I'm converting wrong that is 350whp.
I suppose the real engine killer would be torque spikes right? I mean I have a nice smooth torque curve the engine should be ok?

the evo 7's do have weaker rods than other evo's. you will be fine at 350 as my 7 was at 420hp before i decided to to a build for some strength. you can do cams,turbo,intercooler,E85 and other supporting mods before even thinking about stressing out the standard internals. ( assuming your tuner knows what he is doing )

Ok weaker conrods on the 7's is what I've been told. I will still shoot for 350whp and try and keep the torque smooth. I'm the tuner on this car.
So for 350whp on pump 93 what else would I need?
Mods:
CAI, intake pipe, 8mr turbo (10.5 T) LICP, 18psi wga, GM 3 port, ceramic O2 housing, 3" TBE, decat pipe, walbro 255

cams would get you there easily. i think u need to worry about torque spikes and low end torque more than the hp number. torque is where things go wrong fast.

did the LICP bro, and was hoping to go with just bolt ons, i.e. no cams. But will opt for some drop in cams if I need to.
Any other bolt ons I need to do? What would the current setup net me?

That's what I'm getting from this. Power is ok torque will be a possible killer. I will make sure to try and keep a smooth torque curve. Know any peak torque numbers that I should be weary about hitting? Is it just mainly shape of the curve?

As an Aussie myself, I'd like to know which shop told you 350hp was the limit (PM me if you prefer). I was told 400ish hp by a reputable evo specialist in victoria..

Actually they didn't even say 350whp they said 240awkw is where you'd wanna start doing internals. I guess they're just trying to make money

It is my understanding that rpms and not power kill con rods.
