ELM 327 and P0500

So, I just recently heard about the ELM 327 Super mini Blue tooth OBD2 reader. I ordered one from China for 8$.

The reader came and it connected up no problem and during idle, made accurate readings of various things, RPMs, boost, etc.

When I started to drive in the car, the car instantly throw a P0500 code (checked with the ELM327), promptly deleted the code with the device and it came back almost instantly.

I reached down under the dash and unplugged the ELM 327 and the code never came back (nor has it ever shown up prior to installing the device)

Why is this thing making my car throw this code? Any fixes?

Because China.

The OBD port has VSS feed I think on pin 14. Odds are the device has a short in it or something wires backward inside etc that is crashing the VSS signal throwing the P0500.

It's an $8 part from China. That really is far from the worst example of one of those I've seen.

elm 327

I have the regular elm 327 v1.3. It works great. I have purchased several mini 327's they all gave me problems.

Dont waste you money on that junk. I stepped into a trap as i saw some people's reviews saying it works so i was also thinking it was a cheap gamble if it worked. That "IF" turned out to be a waste of time and $8 bucks. Try scantool.net i had one of the first bluetooth versions and it has worked with every car i've used it on.
