Evo 9 list of problems! -.-

Hello guys!

My car has been stored for the winter and it will be back on road soon! I was thinking about it and some minor troubles I had with it last year and thought I should fix them as soon as possible before it's too late!

So I have an evo ix mr with some mods:

Short ram intake
Map Sensor
Boost controller
O2 Housing
Downpipe
Test pipe
Walbro 255lph
Cat back
Intercooler piping short route
Springs and retainers
Cams S2

Here is my little list of problems!

- I'm loosing some coolant, idk if it's an "exterior" leak, if it goes to my oil or if its my HG.. Do you know how I can figure it out?

- The car is long to warm up when it's just idling. Even during the summer.

- The idle is at low rpm and it even stopped once or twice. I can also hear the engine "ticking".

- I have a missfire on cylinder 3 or 4 (not sure by memory) what can cause this problem? Where should I look first?

- When I go WOT sometimes my check engine flashes and I feel that the engine doesn't push as much as usual. When it happens, I respite the gaz pedal and push again and it's fine.

I think that's all, sorry for the long post! I have used the search button already but I haven't found enough informations so I made my own thread!

Check engine light flashing could be from the misfire or knock. You need to do a coolant pressure test to find the coolant leak. Do a boost leak test as well.

I'm not sure why I should do a boost leak test. It's not like I don't want to do it or don't trust your advice but I'm not sure how it would help me :P

I dont know much about mechanic sorry xD

boost leaks can cause runability issues so not a bad idea to check. pull the plugs check them sometimes plugs could be your misfire issue.

Also, the reason your car takes so long to warm up is because the thermostat is stuck open. Probably stuck half way open would be my guess, allowing coolant to continuously circulate throughout the cooling system.

Since you say you don't know too much about mechanics I suggest you take it to a reputable shop. Some of those symptoms sound like they could be serious. If you don't have a weak engine then get your tune checked and pressure test the cooling and intake systems. Search here for how to do that. Been covered many times.

like one of the member mentioned it above, your thermo is probably open halfway which is why its taking longer to be at operating temps. Check engine light flashing is your knock sensor pulling timing from running lean. If you have a wideband, what are your afr's at WOT? Check your spark plugs/gap, and if that doesnt fix it check your tune. Engine "ticking" is normal for our evos unless you get one of those GSC non tick lifters. Bleeding them could help a little and also depends how thick or thin your oil is. Do a coolant pressure test to find your coolant leak.

He could be referring to the noise made by the injectors. Perfectly normal. As for the DSM thing, say what?

Lmao Diamond Star Motors an evo wasn't the first turbo awd 4cyl . Google that and you will get an education on the history of the 4g63.

Must be the group's turn to laugh. Google that and you will get an education on the history of the 4g63 Because having an Evo means entering the DSM world. DSM doesn't exist as an entity and the only thing the two have in common is the name of the engine - not even close to being the same motors. Of course, the rest of the chassis doesn't count, either. Any other poignant comments?
...in bold. I see you don't own an Evolution. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

Wonderful way to be a jerk . You asked a question like you had no idea what a DSM was I answered and because my car doesn't say evo your gonna be an ***. Most people don't add additional text when they quote someone I guess your just special.

I have lots of comments for you. Have you ever tried to put a newer 4g63 from an evo in a dsm? I have if there not the same motor why does a dsm head fit? Why does the dsm crank and flywheel fit ? Why do the pistons and rods fit also? Valves also are the same and Lifters are the same. There were some small changes like the center thrust bearing changed on the evo but overall it's the same engine they have built since 1990. Any more questions Mr. Ihaveanevoandyoudont?
