Hey guys,

My Evo IX MR has been making some very odd noises when I start my car lately. After I start driving I get a very loud high pitched, grindish, fan type noise, coming from the front driver side of the car. It only last for about 10 to 15 seconds and then stops, after it stops, all 3 of the ACD lights come on. It did not do this once to me over the winter and only does it when it is hot outside.

I am pretty confident it is some sort of issue with the ACD, I just find it odd, that out of the 50 ACD issue threads that I read on here, not one of them mentioned having a god awful noise, like mine makes.

Any advice or knowledge you could enlighten me with, would be awesome. Just trying to find out if anyone has had any sort of experience similar to mine, that could shed some light on this matter, or give me some steps to take.

I am at 59k, so I am getting ready to send it to CBRD for the 60k service,within the next couple of months, so I am sure they will be able to diagnose it for me. The car is also completely stock.

I believe it is the ACD pump. Does it on mine too since I also have all my lights on. We both need a rebuild. =(

 

I just got the rebuild kit and still the 3 lights come on !!!

 

Mine come on after driving a mile or so. I just got the 60k service at the dealer, but the car has been sitting lately. Hopefully its something stupid like they didn't bleed it correctly.

 

Does yours make that noise as well? Since you are going to be taking yours in for a rebuild, do you mind covering for mine as well? Lol

 

Would you be able to send me a link to the rebuild kit you purchased? I tried googling it, to no avail.

The plate that they make for the ebay kit is not the correct size. Multiple people who have bought that kit have had problems rebuilding their pumps.

IIRC, English Racing was making some rebuild kits for ACD pumps.

after reading that thread he linked... and specified the exact post on what to read... I think he is saying the kit is useless. so, the answer to your question is... YES.

 

IMO if you live in a state with harsh winters and they salt the roads do not even waste your time rebuilding it unless you relocate it. It sits in a terrible spot from the factory. When all 3 of my ACD lights came on I called the dealer, IIRC they wanted $2200 for a new unit. No thanks!
I ended up buying an 8 RS tcase with the helical LSD. Unplugged the ACD ECU and no more lights. No more pump to worry about and the engine bay looks better without the resevoir sitting there. Some may call it a downgrade losing ACD but I do not miss it on a 99% street driven car.
