Yes,the under hood bushing kit will not prevent the 2nd gear syncro from sticking on occasion, and from my experience using the BG syncro shift,it doesn't either.I does help, cuts down on the
amount of times that the high rpm 2nd gear grind happens, but it still happens.I personally have had these trannies apart and 2nd gear syncro does stick and the edges do get all ****ed up,but my sugguestion would be either purchase a new 2nd gear syncro and have it installed, this will help alot,or just do like everyone else that doesn't have the problem and shift slowly. It has nothing to do with the fact that you are not "pushing the pedal all the way down",it is a syncro related problem.Good luck in which ever way you go,but have it fixed soon or it will lead to further damage if not addressed.

Well, it seems that way to me (and others from previous discussions on this), but it probably just gives the synchro more time to "synchronize". Worst part for me is I took the EVO mechanic for a ride and was concetrating so well (or shifting slower maybe), it did not happen while he was on board. I wish it would either fix itself (has happened with more milage for some) or blow up, but this intermittant crap is killing me.

Wouldn't have mattered. I got it to grind every time with a rep in my car and they did nothing. Said it designed that way. I had new bushings and BG Syncroshift fluid and nothing helped. I'm still not sure if I'm going to get another Evo in the near future but maybe down the road for an extra track car. I'm hoping to get the new C6 Vette coming out. So that will determine a lot as to whether or not I get an Evo sooner or later.

the style/manner of how you pull the shifter can grind.
and try not to shift as fast as you can, your syncros will love you.

Hey, just use "GM Synchromesh" and you'll have no more tranny grinding! It's a gift from the gods!

or you can go to Autozone and buy "Pennzoil Synchromesh" same exact as the GM, just dont have to buy it at the dealership and its alittle cheaper.

Im glad im into Road racing and have left behind the urge for drag racing. Since this is went this becomes an issue.
On the track you dont encounter no problems if this matter, but like it has been stated before is went speed shifting from 1st to 2nd occurs .. But shifting slower or taking your time gets the problem resolve ....

I have the Syncromesh, under hood bushings and poly shifter bushings. It is a huge difference in feel, but a quick 1-2 can still grind. Now I always give 2nd gear a change to line up. I don't want to damage my tranny to save a split second in acceleration.

I just traded in my '03 silver evo with 15000 miles on it for a new '05 MR. on neither car have i had any shifting problems, grinding or otherwise, except for one time where my reverse ground on the '03, and the dealership warrantied that. i have opened up my MR to where im doing full boost in 1st and 2nd, @ about 1100 miles. your problem sounds like a warranty issue to me if its not the driving.

26K miles and I shift at 7500-7800 rpm very quick only after I changed the tranny fluid to Redline MT-90. With stock fluid, it was impossible to shift fast above 7K rpm.

6 Speed report

The new 6 speed still grinds on 1 - 2 shifts.

I now skip-shift 1 - 3 and have found it to work very well for daily driving.
