use the ramps any time I can - usually for oil/trans/tcase fluid changes. otherwise, use the stands. I use 1" wood blocks to get high up enough to get on the stands for the evo

I can see where ramps would be useful in a situation where you are trying to get the car up in the air quick, but if you are asking what is the best bang for your buck only choosing one jack and jackstands win everytime. Main reason being you can't remove any wheels on ramps, really limits what you can do...

Oh have had my evo for about half a year, but so far have done monthly oil changes, test pipe install, catback install, sst flush/transmission fluid change, and rear differentials on ramps. Only thing I needed jacks for were to rotate my tires. Once again so far at least.
