The Death of the Evo?
August 13, 2002
Ralliart Europe Chairman Andrew Cowan has stated that a review of Mitsubishi’s World Rally Championship programme is evidence of the company’s commitment to the sport.
Olivier Biawalons, the General Manager of the Motor Sports Department, paid a visit to the Rally Finland, during which he had meetings with ISC as well as Ralliart personnel.
“He’s on a fact-finding mission. He’s not here to find out why we’re not winning,” Cowan said. “He’s very open-minded. He’s looking for a wish list from us.”
Cowan said that the new Lancer WRC2 had met expectations, but admitted that performance had to improve.
“We’re half a second a kilometre quicker, so we’re moving in the right direction, but I’m afraid some of the others have moved on again. Our car’s heavy,” he said.
Asked if the Lancer was a suitable long-term basis for a World Rally car, he replied, “I think you’ve got to look at what’s winning”.

realizes they can't compete with the much smaller Peugot 206s and Ford Foci. I was under the impression that all WRC group A cars needed to weigh at least 3000 lbs, and that even the Evo could weigh in at 3000, but I could be mistaken.

BTW, all the major manufacturers are competing in the WRC class, not group A now.

That could be true but i have the feeling that it's hard to compete without Tommi Makkinen. Probably almost impossible replacement for mitsubishi. Mitusbishi needs him back and give him what he wants.
At least the Evo VII was the best street racing evo ever. I feel the VII was more focus for us buyers rather than ralling.
