I'll move your thread here if you want a second discussion on the same topic. No need for 2 topics running around.

who says you'll still be working for them in 3 years? I had a manager position when I bought my lancer. I could easily afford the evo, but decided that a lancer was all I needed. I was barely 21 when I bought it and only 5 months later, I lost my job and havent been working since. Im luck y i decided not to go with the evo, or it would have been repo'd a long time ago

not to rain on your parade or anything but this is what i think:

1) even if you work 80 hours a week, the EVO will still take all the money away from you. it is a high maintanance car and gas is expensive.

2) you are 19 so you don't really have a lot of experience behind the wheel let alone behind a high performance car like the EVO.

3) you don't know how to drive stick.

all the reason above really scare me and i think that you should keep the lancer and be happy with it. if you already said that you think that you will speed in the EVO than please don't buy it. you abviously don't have enough self control and you will end up urting your self.

just my 0.2c

btw, congrats on the new job

I think this thread should just be merged with the original one....and the user should choose one forum for all answers...otherwise this is considered cross-posting.

Working 40hrs a week at $7.75 an hour will net you closer to $875 a month after taxes. You mentioned that you would really only be working 30hours a week....after taxes you will bring home $650 appx per month.

If you put 0 down, your payments will be in the $500 a month range. So $650-500=$150 that you will have left to live your life with. Thats not nearly enough when you think about some things you will have to pay for shortly after getting that Evo.

You might be able to pay for the payments.....but you certainly would be strapped to pay for things like the clutch you will need in 1000 miles, since you don't already know how to drive stick ($1500). You will burn through your first set of tires in about 6 months ($1000 to replace w/OEM's). Oil changes every 3k miles with Mobil1 run about $40....$65 if you get it done at a dealership. This car gets about 50% of the gas mileage that the regular lancer gets....and you are now required to put in premium fuel. So you will be spending easily twice as much for gas as you do now. And what other bills do you pay for each month? Cell phone?($75).....Credit card?($100)

You don't make nearly enough to own AND maintain the Evo AND live a normal life outside of your car seat....not even close. Most people who own Evo's put more money away into savings accounts each month (after paying for all their bills and car payment) than you will be bringing home each month.

Save the Evo ownership until after you get through college. If you are not going to college, perhaps the incentive of being able to buy nice cars with the job your degree will get you will be enough to get you to enroll and study hard.....I know it worked for me!

surely, take it from me, its hard enuf payin for my lancer...whatever you do, whatever car you decide to go with, give yourself a LARGE money buffer, at least a few hundred dollars per month that you can very easily PUT AWAY for things you cannot prepare for and predict. Start budgeting...car payment, gas, other bills...wat do you get at the end of the month...put aside money for food and depending on your lifestyle, social lives are expensive. Just dont dig yourself a hole...credit cards suck!

its not mine its my mom's card. but yes i am trying to finance things out. i really don't drive that much. but i'll see. if i can get a monthly payment below 500 than i think i can afford it with about 400.00 a month to spare. i don't pay rent, insurance, or anything. i'm pretty sure that i will spend like 50 a month on gas, since i don't drive a lot. and i can save like 300.00

$50 will buy you about 400 miles of driving each month. If you like to feel the turbo spool, you'll only get about 300 miles out of your $50.

Just remember, in the first 6 months, you will have to plunk down an additional $2500 on the Evo just to keep it running. Thats an extra $400 a month for the first 6 months of ownership. So to afford that, you will need to bring home more than $1k per month.

Did you not notice that no one in this thread thought it was a good idea for you to get an Evo now based upon the info you gave? Yet you still think you can afford it.

Why did you ask our opinion if you obviously already had your mind made up?

You will need to buy tires and a new clutch within 6 months since;
a. thats just how fast the tires wear out since the car comes with summer compound soft tires $1000.
b. you do not know how to drive stick. Learning to drive stick on a car with a fairly fragile clutch will wear it out very very fast! $1500
