a friend of mine has an A series with the CVT. even that thing just went through a rebuild LOL.

I came from a g35 Coupe to a Evo X to a E90 335I then back to a Evo IX. I bought the 335i and within months I was going through Evo withdraws so I bought a Evo IX.

 

just paid 17k for a 40k 2.4 evo 8 RS and I feel like I got a killer deal. anywho STIs aren't bad if you don't care about high HP. To begin with they have cruise control. Evo's are just better for other reasons but they both have pros and cons..

I just hope the values keep rising for the good clean ones.

 

I have an '04 WRX. It is cold here and I went to the shop to air up the tires and put winter grade windshield washer solution in the bottle. When I pulled the cap off the ribbon of plastic that attaches the cap to the bottle neck broke and the cap disappeared into the engine bay. Ten minutes later I had fished that out. When I went to lower the hood prop rod the little clip on the radiator support snapped. Next day at the salvage yard I asked for an entire radiator support thinking they wouldn't have just that small plastic piece separate. The salvage yard part had the clip broken on it too. So, I rigged a homemade prop rod clip made of metal.

I simultaneously did the same service on my Evo and nothing broke. Quality and lack of it. End of story.

BTW, my car has cruise. People install turbos and all sorts of other upgrades and can't install cruise? I don't understand it.

 

Most auto parts stores carry replacements. I can't stand when those things are broken LOL

In general, the more stock the car is, the higher the price.

 

Coming from Honda's(and still owing a Type R) I'd always wanted an STI or and Evo 8/9 as a second car. Did research on both and preferred the Evo but ended up with an '07 STI Limited a few years ago. It was nice, comfy, torquey, cool sounding and reliable for the 2 years I had it. Did the basic bolt-ons and COBB v2 but no dyno numbers. I had fun with it in the snow, rain and even some gravel roads. I felt it was bulky and heavy though. I never dug the whole boxer engine thing and was scared of the ringland issue. I felt like I was either going to take it to the next level and build the motor or sell it and move on. I chose to sell it.

After a year I got the itch for another fun daily. A 2006 IX GSR popped up close by(they are rare in Canada)so I snatched it up. Instant love affair!! Compared to the STI I found it lightweight, way more tossable, great steering, more balanced, better revving engine, and better seats. The STI may be a more comfy daily but the Evo wins in every other category. It's a great car coming from a DC2R. It behaves similarly but with awd and boost. Love the motor(very B18C5-ish) and drivetrain. Lots of aftermarket support. I'm definitely stoked on it and will be keeping for a while and building it up and hitting the road course.

 

I dreamed about a IX but never found a clean specimen, so I went with a X GSR. Love every aspect of the car, and the seats fit better my 220 pound chassis.

Wish I could own them both.

 

always had different cheapy hot rods, finally got a loan for a nice daily driver. kicked the timing belt 3 months after i bought it. at least i still owe a ton on it.
luckily i have my twin turbo silverado to drive to work.

 

These are all awesome stories! I found my evo when I wasn't looking for it! I was going to import an r32 skyline gtr but due to I'm getting married soon the future wife, "I'm not saying no, I'm just saying not now" so I wanted something and and fast so I found mine with 16k original miles on it!
