Evolution VIII Ad Campaign?
Im studying photo and film at college, they teach every thing from direction to ad agency. Someday ill make your Evo VIII ad. Well im in my first year of college so i doubt the evo will be here by the time i get out, heh.
Hmm, a subject on which I make my living. Maybe I should respond...
Well, Deutsch LA does Mitsubishi of America's advertising. They've done some good stuff for the Eclipse, but I'm not talking about the Dirty Vegas spots. I especially liked the one where the guy takes the girl on a date, and she walks to the Eclipse parked outside, except his car is the beater behind it. THe spot was shot in black and white. Anyway...
Just for the record, doing a montage takes little or no thought. We'll take some shots of the car, throw a song on top of it, and let the director figure out the rest. A monkey could do that. Advertising people are paid to think stuff up, and a montage spot really doesn't require many brain cells.
Contrasting the car against other cars is interesting, but you run the risk of saying something bad about the competition, and forgetting to say something good about your product. How about this tag line:
Mistubishi Evolution VIII. Affordable performance.
I like the idea of openning with some beauty shots of the car to introduce it, then getting more creative with the commercials. We'll see what Deutsch/Mitsubishi does.

Eh... slogans... stick with "wake up and drive."
Seriously, if we were talking competition, I think it would be better for the EVO to be SLALOMING between various higher priced cars...
I agree that the montage is a bit hackneyed. But, I think that whatever they do, it ought to be cool, so long as they don't have whatever crappy one-hit wonder + aging crooner mix they'll have for the halftime show ride out in it.
As for radio spots, that's easier. I think something to the effect that "If you don't like someone elses car, just put your right foot down, solve the problem right there." Course, you'd need a disclaimer on that...
I dunno... I just hope they don't try the same formula as the Dirty Vegas spots... I'll admit it, I kinda like the spots, despite the definite lack of cool factor, and the obvious pandering to the youth market, but, I guess the fact that I like it shows that it works. Oh, wait, I didn't run in and trade in my Lancer for one of those Eclipses... Ooops.

It was driven by a bunch of younger people and they seem to have fun in the car and then the car zooms off

Needless to say, I cant wait for the EVO. But I am curious to what the ad campaign that
is going to use to promote it. My idea:
Picture: A fog. Some flashes of light. A voice booms, "4 WRC drivers titles" (barley recognizible clips of previous EVOs sliding/jumping start flashing), "276 horsepower" (hopefully
, more clips flash) "And vicious AWD" (New clips of the VIII doing some hard driving), "Mitsubishi is proud to present" (The EVO 8 flashes onscreen), "The Lancer Evolution VIII." A montage of the EVO doing hard driving follows for a few seconds. Then the screen goes black, the
symbol is outlined, but with flames slowly growing behind it.

symbol and the word EVOLUTION in metal shine real quick. The only sounds in it would be the revving of the engine. It kinda has a movie trailer theme to it, and I'd think that'd work better than one with music. I mean, look at the days go by ad with the eclipse...that's just retarded. I'd want the commerical to show me what the car can do, not the ability to dance in the front seat. And that new Subaru commercial when the guy goes "I love this part" is pretty stupid too.
a black screen with just a heartbeat in the background the
fades in and then out then you see in white text "For every action there is a Reaction" quickly show a pic of the compition a wrx getting beat in a rally event by an EVO then show the EVO whipping around an Sti on some US country back road, then it fades to slow motion video of a hard driving EVO. then fade to an Evolution staring you striaght in the face then fade back to black with the phrase "you get the idea!" that fades out and then the
fades in and then the date of arrival shows up under the flag.

They'll probably lay off the WRC stuff, since it most likely isn't going to be understood by those who dont know about it. Im assuming their going to do something with an open road and for a few seconds they have nothing happening and than you hear this revving and turbo whine and than you see this blur zoom by. Maybe there will be music or spoken words and than after the car zooms by they'll do something along the lines of the nissan commercial. 200 and whatever horsepower, blah blah, EVOLUTION VIII. At the end there will just be the car. Almost similiar to the 300zx when its racing around the track and it passes an airplane i believe and than you just see the rpms go nuts.
Well, Mitsubishi will not get rid of Wake up and Drive. That will stay. What if you do a spot to make it look like a ps2 game like Grand Turismo. THen the computerish feel is disolved to reveal the real car doing the stuff you thought was a video game.
The Evo VIII. It's performance is real (or something like that). We'll see what they do. Even if it isn't good, the car will still be
