Just a quick question and it should be relatively easy. I am interested in purchasing an evo 3. It is well priced with very low kms but i'm just a bit confused and would like some help.

The chassis number doesn't resemble that of the genuine evo 3's, but it has a 2ltr engine and the evo 3 running gear. The chassis number, to me, checks out to be that of the GSR. The car has travelled less than 90,000kms so it seems to be a lot of work really.

Engine bay looks Evo 3ish, the other pics are blacked out can't see them on my iPhone, what did you pay for her?

 

The other pic has the chassis number as JMFSNCD5ASU100307 - which to me is a gsr; but like I said; it has a 2ltr, Evo 3 body kit and Evo 3 running gear but the car has travelled well under 80,000km so it seems strange to me.

Did any genuine Evo 3s come Aust delivered as CD5A or is this likely a gsr made to look like a genuine Evo 3?

The guy I'm buying it off says he asked the same question but sent it to a Ralliart dealer and they verified it as a genuine Evo 3,

Pretty safe to assume it is GSR converted to EVO III as the chassis code is CD5A

 

real evo 1,2,3 and 4 all have 12 digit vin numbers

 

front strut towers do not have bracing which evo's have

i think i saw this ad somewhere, it is not a real evo 3 but rather a conversion of an australian delivered gsr.
from memory it was missing a few other things of a genuine evo. rear wiper, climate control, 240kmh speedo instead of 180kmh speedo, folding mirrors, still has a pillar antenna.
someone bought it though... as the ad has been taken down off ebay.
most local ralliart dealers wont have any idea on evo 1-5 as these were never imported by mitsubishi to be sold in australia.

there were martin griggs rebuild evo's 3's. these are almost the real thing as most were hand built by him to include all the usual jdm evo options but based off a gsr (bracing, climate control, folding mirrors, rear wiper, double stitch welding, power antenna, recaros, genuine bodykit)
