Wheel or Road Noise on EVO

I've never driven a stock EVO before so I don't know. Just went ahead a purchase a used Modified one.

When I'm driving the wheel noise is loud! Sounds as if the tires were uneven. (Not sure if ya now what I mean) Is this normal on the EVO or is the tires bad/uneven? Also the braking noise and occasionaly rattling like something is loose suck! Other then that I luv the car!

No offense but the quality for a 30K lancer car suck!

Thanks

No offense but you have likely missed the point of this car.

What kind of tires are on the car currently? Are the wheels stock? How many miles on the tires that are on the car currently?

Uhhhh, if you want a ride with no road noise or brake squeel go get an accord. the 30k you spent on the evo ALL went towards performance. It is a driver's car. If you can't live with it, the evo is not for you in the first place.

I think you misunderstand me because I luv the car. This is my first MIT car just because I love the Lancer (last MIT too) but I didn't imagine the maintenance (along other minor issues) will be so high especially for 30K and occurring at low mileage. MIT

The car have 10K miles with stock wheels and I'm not sure whether the tires were rotated. I just did a search and looks like the stock tires doesn't last too long especially with the alignment/toe issues.

I'm assuming the road noise is do to uneven tire wear. I'm planning to get new tires and hopefully the noise will decrease.

I'll do a search to see what tires to get.

The tire noise is because of the type of tires they are. There are some tires that are noticably noisy. You can expest it from a high performance tire that is as close to a race tire as you'd want for the street. Take a drive in an STi. The tires it uses are just as loud. Buy a different type of tire and you'll get a smoother ride and a lot less tire noise. The difference between my Sumitomo HTR's and the stock Advans is very noticeable. My Victoracers give me a similar ride to running the Advans...

But when you get tires with a smoother ride and less tire noise, you are trading off those comforts for performance usually.

Road noise int he Evo will always be louder than other cars in the $30k range. Mitsu purposefully left out most of the sound deadening.

Other cars in the $30k range will have more sedate road manners because their manufacturers spent money making the car quiet, makeing sure nothing squeaked, and to make sure the powdered asses that drive em don't whine too much about a lack of luxuries....but they won't even be int he same league, performance-wise, as the Evo.

The Evo was built for performance -ONLY-. ie, the money went into go-fast parts and not luxuries, sound deadening, and other NVH issues.

well actually went and got an alignment this morning while i was at the dealership doing the oil. Alignment wasnt a bad price at all, they aligned my evo to par with the Tein S tech springs on it for 54.95, I didnt think that was bad at all...feels better now, and what do you know, i dont think the tires are as loud either, got some on the way as we speak, but still not as bad as it was

I know when my tires were worn out road noise was really loud, as soon as I got an allighnment and new tires it was a dramatic difference.

Also road noise varies by the type of road surface. On freshly paved blacktop, the car is much quieter than rough concrete freeways. I don't care, the car is loud and raw, just like I like it.

That's how I like my women, loud and raw!

When I took my car to the dealership for the 7500 mile work, for some reason they took the car on a 5 min drive. Anyway, long story short, they heard the noise and said it was a ball bearing going out. I asked if it could be the tires, and they didn't seem to think so. "Bring it in and we will check the bearings..."

Road noise in this car is neglibable to other high performance cars I have driven. Supra's, STI's, Porsche TT's, & 355's. They all were considerably loud @ highway speeds.
Personally, I think it adds character to the car.
