Can the transmission fit in the trunk?

Kind of an odd question, but I was wondering if anyone had an answer.

Long story short, gotta pick up a replacement transmission and don't have a truck or van nearby. Can our transmissions fit in the trunk of a similarly sized or larger sedan? This is not including the transfercase, or any axles, etc.

I'd think so. The thing is about 20 inches high so depending on how deep the trunk is you might have to tie the lid down. Bring along another bloke to help you lift, she's a boat anchor.

I put 2 construction bags on the back seat and placed the trans. Was thinking about the trunk but was afraid to scratch it and wasn't sure if that playwood cover withstand 80pounds.

^ this. cover definitely won't hold, get a 1/2" piece of plywood and strap the transmission to it

80 pounds? I think if you double that weight you'd be getting close.

yea it's about 140-160, it easily fits in the trunk if you remove the liner and spare wheel.

Yes, it will fit in the back of most sedans. Just make sure you reinforce the trunk floor with something.

The Evo trans is heavy as hell! Always cuts up my arms when I pick it up to move it across the garage. Always wondered what would happen if I accidentally dropped it on shifter arms.
