Should I buy this evo ix? Is it worth it?

I hope I'm in the right place...

I found this evo ix close to me that's pretty much everything I want. W.w., 61,000 miles adult owned fairly unmolested, leather etc. it looks pretty solid.

My problem is I have to finance most of it, my credit union only values the car at $20k and he's asking $22k. I do have the money to cover the difference, but do I really want to start off the loan at close to upside down?

From what I've seen 22k for a clean ix is a good price, but it's throwing me off that there's 2012 x's out there for ~$26k.

I guess my question is should I jump on this ix and quit being an indecisive ay whole, or be more responsible and go with a newer x? I know I may be in the wrong forum for unbiased answers, but at least there's experience here.

Thanks in advance.

Test both first it's going to be easier to decide.

IMHO, if you have a back up car, for when you're installing parts ect... get the IX. Otherwise the X.

Buy the IX. 22K for a clean stock ~60k mile IX is a good deal.

You can definitely find them cheaper, but financing isn't a terrible option provided you can get a good enough rate. Anything over 5-6% i probably wouldn't do it for 22k. Ultimately it's up to you though, so if it's what you want go for it.

I sold my bmw yesterday but I have an old jeep I'm still finishing an axle swap on , but it will be reliable enough as a back up.

I know! I think it's a fair price. I would be saving on shipping/ driving time with it being close too.

I have seen some alittle cheaper, but the nicer LOOKING ones online usually hover mid 20's, even seen some 05's well into $20's.
I've worked real hard to improve my credit since I bought the bimmer, so I'm hoping I can at least get 4% ... but it is a 10 yr old now.

To me there has to be a reason (several IMO) the ix is almost as much still as the x, so I'm willing to bet in 5 yrs the x will have a lower resale as well.

You just have to be patient. I looked for my entire deployment before I found the one I ultimately ended up buying. Got my IX MR with a MAP 2.3 build, MAP EF4 turbo, 5 speed swap, KW coilovers and a TON more for 19k with 83k miles and only 12k on the built motor trans turbo etc and only thing wrong with it was a crack in the front lip and that's it. For me that made the wait totally worth it. My advice would be take your time in looking, and find a solid bank that will give you good rates etc.

They are completely different cars.
The IXs will be harder to find with low miles soon and the prices will increase hopefully.

The X is a better daily from what I've heard, but I've never driven one.

Yeh the X, its a better daily, soft, relaxing, paddle shifter on the MR, cruise, sat nav, nice stereo, sun roof, you can get em for the same price all that stuff, I could even get a new camry 6 cyl for the price I paid for my ten year old IX.....

and when you pull up at that coffee shop after your fav sunday canyon run and sit there with your IX parked out the front and look at that beast that just set your adren pumping, that's my beast your going to say and you'll never regret one minute that you got something special.

Financing close to the complete value wont be too bad since I believe loans on a car that "old" can be max 3 years, so it will be paid down rather quickly. Finding a low mile IX, as stated by the others, will only become more rare and hold if not increase in value. If you are looking to go that route I would highly support that decision.

This is a good point. There is just something special about the Evo IX. The *** is so subtle and the front is so aggressive, the saying "If you walk away from your car without looking back, you bought the wrong car" has never been more true.

You guys are just getting me pumped up!! I went to see the x sat night and it was gone. I checked out the ix yesterday and on the way I was thinking I won't get the ix just for the age. When I got there it was another story, if it wasn't a 10, it was a 9.5. It was beautiful. I'm not sure if I'll find one this nice. If I do it won't be in Texas, and it won't be 22k. I'll have to come off a few grand to get my payments right but I think I'll be happy for years.

I only drove it for 15 min or so but actually rides smoother than my zhp did. He did timing belts and other maintenance he even got it Dyno tuned (was a Cali car) and compression tested. I gave it maybe half throttle and the boost from 35-5000 was great. We left it idling for over half an hour while we talked, and even with a full invidia exhaust you could barely hear it running with no hiccups. The guy was so particular he had shirts and towels over the seats while we drove it.

I've bought lots of cars thru the years and I feel good about it, he seemed truthful about everything. I think it's going to be the ix!

You won't regret it, I guarantee it. No matter what evo you get, the feeling of driving them and hitting boost right out of a corner is just amazing. Just try not to catch the mod bug too quickly lol.

The car is strange, it virtually wraps itself around you like a transformer and you become one with the vehicle, you feel each wheel biting the tar when you hit those corners at speed, the connectIon as they say, will make your heart race.....other cars will be left in your dust that try to keep up with you.....and track days will take you to the next level, the ultimate test, when you get out there time will stand still and you'll forget all your troubles in the world as you tussle with exotic sports cars and thumping v8s.....

Ooops sorry, we would never pump you up would we??? :P

Usually it is 3-4 years max on a loan for a car this old, but M&T for example will do 5-year loans. Also, try and stay under 6% or you're paying too much in interest for what it's worth. Don't just jump on a loan. I was quoted by one credit union at 8.3% for 5 years and I have over an 800 credit score...Was able to get a 5-year loan at 5.2%, and because of that have been able to pay more than the loan payment every month. Should have the car paid off in less than 3 years, but it's nice having the freedom to still at least make the regular monthly payment if I spent too much money on other bull**** I didn't need that month.

Read the fine print of the loan, please!
