Welp, my Evo got backed into this weekend and is a little bruised up. I'm devastated.
It has a little over 47k on it and I have owned it less than 4k

Very heart breaking, I'm now torn on what I want to do with it after I get it fixed.
I have already made a claim through insurance and will be stopping by a few places tomorrow to get estimates, but I'm just scared/nervous/pissed/heart broken that it just might never be the same afterward. Rear quarters are a big job and are unfortunately my favorite body line on the car.
Any suggestions when looking for a shop to do this kind of job? I will be taking it to the Mitsubishi dealer for my first estimate because I've heard they do good paint work and I really want someone with experience on these kinds of cars/this kind of work to do the job. There is also a reputable auto-restoration shop around, but they focus on vintage/muscle car restorations so I'm not sure they would take on this project or what insurance would say.
I saw it happen as I was walking out of the store. I literally fell to my knees when I got to the car. I thought it was a dream. New York has no-fault insurance so each insurance company will cover their own vehicles in this situation. Really sucks because their car needs a new bumper cover and tail light
EDIT (Update):
Here is the current state. Base coat on, spraying Monday, they're detailing entire car on Tuesday, should have it back Tuesday/Wednesday.

Will be taking some real pictures once it's done, so stay tuned for that. So far I am very pleased with the work. They aren't rushing anything, and they told me they just repaired an EvoX over the winter that ended up with $25,000 in damage. Kid got it as a Christmas present and wrapped it around a pole trying to drift. Handed over the keys after that.

I will be discussing that with the shop tomorrow.
Anyone with experience know how that works? Since it's not direct bolt up I doubt insurance will cover it.
Rear bumper might actually be able to be massaged out, tail light and fender needs replacing. Trunk seems fine.

The insurance company cuts a check based on an estimate to repair the damage, and you decide how that money is spent. Its hard to tell from the pictures if the Quarter panel needs to be replaced or not. It will mostly depend on what the adjuster thinks needs to be replaced or just reconditioned.

Right, was referring to the JDM rear. Not sure insurance would consider that the OEM part.
The quarter is pretty bashed in (small area but a good amound of damage), and is also creased. They'll probably have to cut back to the gas cap.
Anyone know if this is enough damage to warrant frame damage on the carfax report?

Well the insurance company will give you the money to replace the OEM part. What you choose to do after that is up to you. If you want to buy a JDM or even a used bumper then thats all good.

I see. So to my understanding they will cut me a check based on what they think it will cost to fix the car, and from there I can take that check to a shop of my choosing and say I want this, this and this and they will let me use that check toward what I want? I'd imagine I'd be covering at least some of the cost if I was to go JDM rear versus OEM as it's a more expensive bumper cover and isn't a direct bolt up. Am I wrong in thinking this way?
$3,500-$5,000 a fair estimate for this amount of work? I'm hoping they will only have to cut back to the gas cap, but I won't know until I get an estimate this afternoon.
What I'm afraid of is that State Farm will say it's $2,000 in work (for example) if I do not choose one of their collision shops (not too excited about this idea...), but the work is really going to cost close to $5,000 from any other reputable body shop/dealer collision shop.

They won't cut the quarter at or near the gas cap. If the quarter needs replaced, they do the whole thing. It's much easier to just drill out all the spot welds, and then make a small cut in the c-pillar area. That way when it goes back on, they just reweld the spot welds, and only have one small weld to do in the c pillar. Trying to weld that long length by the gas cap will inevitably cause warping.

That's what I've been reading. Would you stick to a place like a Mitsubishi dealer or do you think "any" reputable auto restoration/body shop will be able to get the job done mint?

Go to a high-end dealership and get their recommendations if you don't have a place that you know is good.
As for the JDM rear, it depends on how your insurance handles the claim: They can either give you the check and say have fun, or they give the check to the body shop doing the work.
I have seen it work better if they give the check to the body shop because the initial estimate is usually under what the repair will actually cost and it is easier for the body shop to ask insurance for more money than it is for you to.
Either way, talk to the shop and make sure they are going to get all New OEM parts and honestly just tell them what you would like to do re: the JDM rear.
The cost to them will be pretty much the same, since either bumper would be a new OEM replacement, and will require paint / prep work. The cost of the USDM bumper plus the crash bar plus the foam piece will roughly equal the cost of the JDM rear plus the STM or Demonworkz rear bumper support. (the STM one is linked below).
Hopefully that helps.

It comes out better this way. If they do it right, you won't be able to tell. Other than you know it was replaced. You would be surprised what good body guys can do, yours might be fixable.

As far as the JDM rear bumper, STM can get you a great deal since you can pick it up.

I will ask the body shop tomorrow if they would be able to accommodate this. I like the IX tails better than the JDM tails, but I can't imagine a JDM bumper cover/hardware is THAT MUCH more expensive than an OEM bumper, so I don't see why it would be an issue.

It's up to you who gets the money. If you take the car to the body shop and let them handle the claim, it's easier to file for supplements. If you get the money, and take the car to a shop, it is generally easier pick the parts you want if you don't want what was on the insurance estimate. But the ease/difficulty of picking parts would also depend on the shop.

I was quoted $1,850, which I feel is very low. They don't think it will need a new quarter or bumper cover, which makes the most expensive part of the job the tail light ($450
).For some reason I just feel this is bull**** (if it's legit I guess that's a good thing?), but I will know more once I stop by the State Farm appraiser and the collision center I was referred to.
I will not be getting the work done through STM, I just wanted an initial estimate from them so I had an idea of what work was going to be needed.

Good call asking STM. They will definitely be able to put you in touch with the right people. They can also probably help navigate the JDM bumper option with whatever shop they recommend. Technically, the JDM bumper Is OEM, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue, as long as prices are similar, or you just pay the difference out of pocket, nbd.
Same with the IX tails, they'll pay to replace the broken one, just buy the other out of pocket. It's still half off of a set lol.
Also, There's way more than $1850 worth of repairs there, if done correctly.
And don't let them try to re-use that bumper cover, even if there's just a hairline crack, it's a crack that wasn't there previous to the accident, so they can't expect you to be okay with it after the damage is repaired.
