Fuel smell after fill up - leaking sending unit?

Ever since I got my car I noticed if you fill it up it would smell heavily of raw fuel until the level in the tank dropped a bit. After searching a while I decided to take the inspection cover off the sending unit under the rear seat. The top of the pump was wet and smelled exactly like my garage does after I park it with a full tank. Do the lines leak or does it look like I need a new seal for the sending unit?

the bottom hose in the pic is leaking for sure looks like someone has modded your pump assembly may be leaking from that nonstock brass fitting too.

That brass fitting isn't factory? Well that could be my problem then. The previous owner put a Wally 255 in, and one of the bolts broke for the sending unit ring, so I may end up replacing the whole tank and put in a new sending unit.

There should be a rubber gasket between the plastic lip of the fuel basket and the tank. Is that still in tact?

post below has some pics of the stock unit for comparison.

Wow.... Looks like the original return port broke off and he glued a brass fitting in there. So at some point I'll need a whole new sending unit
