Trading my Evo in..
Saturday I'll be leaving the Evolution again. ;-/ It's been fun but its just starting to be a moneypit for me after the last couple years. Trust me..I've loved every minute of spending the money but, its gotta stop. The latest thing to die on me and need repair is the blend doors. I had it diagnosed by dealership and was quoted $950+ to fix ....that's not going to work in the Arizona desert.
I do enjoy the community here and all the information I've gained. Its been very much appreciated! Thanks to all that have helped,
BMH

I don't know the exact price of the blend door but most of the quoted price is labor. I bought the blend door years ago figuring I'd have to install it some day but it continues to occupy space in my garage. Still, it seems a shame to dump a car for a flap in the heater box. Pulling the heater box is a BIG job but one I'd do if I had to.
Had to replace my heater core a year ago, its pretty much the same job if your blend door is too jammed for the new lever to help you. Here is an album I made of what the job looks like if anyone is interested. http://imgur.com/a/P3TiX#0

I thought about it I just didn't want to do this job over the summer in the garage figure it would take me a month at my pace with other things going on. ;-/

The evo is 12 yrs old and if it's not one thing it's another. I will miss the car just not all the downtime.
Plus, I gain safety features, technology and less of a payment to insurance on new car. Seems like a win for me.
An STI isn't exactly the definition of reliable though. When I read your original post I figured you were just going to get a normal car to have something reliable and cheap to maintain and then a read STI and just shook my head. Evos have their problems too but I even know people that have or have in the past had STIs and make jokes about them being afraid they will blow up every time they drive them.

I wasn't buying a Ford Focus. Normal car whatever...
Anyways, I've owned three other Subarus w/o issues. Thx!
Hey man, enjoy a new car whatever you get. But an STi is a horrible decision. A lot of us came from that platform. I had an 08 STi that I did everything right on it, heavily researched. Headgasket blew at 100k and some change and took a ton of money with it. Then when back together whoops looks like your shortblock warped when the car overheated from the headgasket. Flush.
**** the 2.5 liter Subaru engine. If you're going to do this at least get a 2015/2016 with the direct injected 2.0 or get an 05 or something with the 2.0 liter engine. I have an 05 WRX wagon with the 2.0 that shouldn't die like the 2.5 did thankfully.

I actually am going with 2016 STi. I've had a 02 Wrx and I do know them is a potential for issues with the engine. I've got no desire to modify the new STi. Thank you
Well, when you trade a car because of a broken heater box what is really going on is new car fever. I've had it a few times but I recovered. Anyway, nothing wrong with that - new car smell and no coins under the seat.
