Purposes of splash Shield??

Hey guys,
so the splash shield (the plastic that keeps the engine and components clean under car from road debris) - is it mainly to keep things clean and for protection from debris, or does it also serve other purposes? does it have any effect on aerodynamics? It's a real pain to take out all 15+ screws overtime I take the bumper off. I would like to take it off, but only if the benefits outweigh the time it takes to unscrew it everytime I take the bumper off.
Keep in mind - No longer the daily driver. Gets around 2- 400 miles per month. Only used for spirited driving occasionally. Also , looking to begin my build after 2 years of stock DD.

Sure it has an effect on aero to help clean up the air under the engine bay but you wont notice it

Ive been running w/out a tray for 8 years. When I was tracking my EVO seriously, I had made my own tray. But on the street I run trayless.

Sounds like your EVO is being driven similarly to mine. Mine does not even see the rain

When I go back to the track, I will likely make a tray made from Alumilite

yeah do yourself the favor of taking it off. save a lot of time in the future. and I am the type of person that likes to keep everything on my car. once I took it off and left it off I didn't miss a thing.
