Angry EVO clutch burned out at 6000 miles?

Hey guys, need some advice. My friends Evo has 6000 miles and the clutch is burned out already. He has never had a problem with a clutch on a car before. He drives trucks for a living. He knows how to drive stick. The dealer is telling him its his fault and he has to pay for a new clutch. They also charged him $80 bucks to check the car out. I think they are taking advatage of him. Hempstead mitsubishi sucks.

Please help

Thanks

Yeah it sucks, mine went out at 6500 miles. didnt replace it. I got a new one instead. You can fight and fight if you want to, but do a search on this topic and you'll find a million threads where didnt do **** for anyone, and a few where they did. Good luck. Oh yeah, I recommend the Cusco Carbon-Faced Twin Disk.

i agree with the above. you can fight it and you might win and get the same crappy clutch OR you can just take the loss and buy a nice cusco carbon clutch that will last you longer and will take the abuse.

let me know if you need the clutch and i will hook you up.

Slipping the clutch can fry it in ONE SHOT.

You are lucky to get charged only 80$. In CA they tell you that they will take it apart to check and if its your fault you owe them 300$ which will go toward the repair.

It can't be that he has to pay for a new factory clutch when the car is brand new? Ive never heard of so many people having the same problems with the clutch. Mitsu, is screwing people.

its a wear item, which is not covered by the warrenty. mine lasted over 10,000 miles, and i tracked my car also, and slipped, and launched the car... i put in a twin disk, the stock clutch was a little glazed. but it was still good....

its a wear item. although i don't agree that a clutch should wear out like this. but i think MMCA, shouldn't even sell the evo here anymore... too many complaints.

anyway, mmca had the weak clutch put in for a reason, to save the drivetrain, the clutch is suppose to go first, before the drivetrain...so if your trying to burnout and stuff... the clutch is gonna give before the drivetrain

I have ten thou on mine and have drawn smoke three times...if you goose the revs up into the boost range before you engage you will really smoke it. I did not buy this car to drive it "nice" but I do take it easy off the line. My clutch shows no signs of slipping but I will replace it as soon as I strart serious mods.

Let the car be driven out of your sight for a moment JUST ONCE! For example: valet, 'buddy' driving it, quak mechanic on a test run, any of the above and they WILL abuse your car and break it. So think to yourself, did I leave it with a valet recently? Or, did I let one of my ******* friends drive it? If your buddy can afford 30 large for a car to play with, what is a few hund on a good clutch? Think you can play and not pay? C'mon.
nastea,Maybe Ferrari should stop importing cars to america too. Why not my Maranello's window will not work correctly. lol. Mitsubishi is cheapasses? Oh, really, if you have to spend some cash for a mod, who is the cheapass?

I've got over 20K in my clutch... I've launched hard a few times and slipped it until it smelled a couple of times... It seems OK still although George at Boost Solutions says it's borderline..... I still can accelerate in 4th and 5th gear without any appreciable slipping..... I guess eventually It'll go and I'll have to have a decent twin plate clutch installed.

I can't see a valet abussing and destroying your clutch just parking your car. I live in Vegas where there are more valet parking than anywhere in the world.

I have almost 13,000 miles on my car and my clutch is still good (knock on wood). I've been known to launch it once in awhile. What the in the world are people doing? 6000 miles and the clutch is already out? If your going to be abusing your car, it's going to break.

I agree. At least until they realize that they need to make the minor changes to compensate for the warranty and compliants from the buyers. Resale value goes down the drain. I think this is hurting them more then helping.
