⛔★ Clunk or thump when getting on the clutch, bushing?

Hey guys my Evo 8 has this thump or clunk every time I push the clutch in especially after 4k rpm. Its not metal on metal, it just feels like the power train has movement perhaps too much. Sounds to me like a soft motor mount or maybe some bad bushing.

What bushings usually go bad on Evos? Mine has 80k.

Or is this something else I really don't know. Motor mounts see good, and I went under the car and everything looks good. Nothing move easy with a pry bar but that isn't telling me much

Are you moving shifter out if gear before the clutch full engages?

It could be driveline noise. Which could be normal.

Maybe normal, I had a few awd cars over the years never felt this before so not really sure. Its just a thump when i push the clutch down, before i even come out of whatever gear I'm in. it feels like its coming from the whole drivetrain, sometimes from the front, sometimes from the rear? idk really hard to pinpoint from inside when you are driving.

I was thinking about getting a stiffer front or rear motor-mount just to see if thats it

I have poly diff bushings, and i still get the noise. I've checked the drivetrain twice and can't find anything wrong. Just how it is, I guess.
If it ain't broke, I ain't fixin' it LOL

haha I just wasn't sure if it was normal or not but its good to hear others confirm it might be. I though maybe normal since the thump isn't metal on metal and its not very loud, doesn't sound serious at least. I still though maybe its a common problem or something easy to fix so I figured I ask.

My driveline thumps hard when im cruising around town and pull the shifter out of gear before the clutch is in full throw position. Also when releasing clutch to fast or when shifting fast up top.

This isnt a motor mount issue. Its driveshaft slop, combined with old diff bushings and mustache bar bushings. If you wana help the noise buy "mustache bar" and diff carrier bushings. From whiteline

Ok thanks. I'm gonna look into getting all these bushings, I'm sure after 80k it wouldn't hurt replacing them even if they look ok

Yea hope you have a press handy if needed. I used a airhammer. First cut out the rubber and then hit the race with a airhammer.

I used a drill bit to cut the bushing drilled holes all the way around it then knocked it out with a air hammer.

Yea my dad has a press in his garage. I was thinking about doing the 2 diff bushings and see how the car feels. And if its still bad do the mustache bushings too

Anyone run the mustache bar eliminator thingy?

Mustache eliminator is for full race cars track only imo.

I didn't do the mustache bar bushings when I did the rest of my car. That could be the source of the noise; Not sure.
I wasn't really wanting to drop the rear sub frame to get the bar out LOL. I'll end up with an eliminator, anyway. I'll drop everything then. I'd rather just do it the one time.

Oh damn so doing the mustache bushing is quite a bit of work than. Diff bushings seem easy enough.
