Hi everyone, just picked up a 2003 Evo 8 in Rally Red. Got it from the original owner. Needs a little TLC but I think I got a great deal. Looking forward to posting some of its progress.
Thanks everyone. I got the car locally from the original owner. No accidents or major paintwork. He repaired the rust that formed under the spoiler. I wanted this car so bad when I was 23(36 now). My dad and I went and test drove them back then but unfortunately he talked me out of it. Fast forward 14 years and I finally bought one. The car definitely looks better in pictures. The paint is somewhat faded and the hood is chipped but I am confident I can bring back a lot of it. Going to try Meguiars mirror glaze products and my DA. They have always worked well for me without breaking the bank. Probably going to wrap the hood just to hide the chips for now. Shes got 145k on her. All professionally maintained through the years. Recent clutch, timing belt, water pump, etc etc. Inside is clean, but the drivers seat is a bit worn. Other than that I think it looks great.
Current list or what's done(that I know of)
HKS downpipe
Evo 9 Hotside
272 cams
Air box removed(just a K&n filter there now)
I know it has a BOV but no idea what brand
Manual boost controller
Auto meter boost guage
Sway bars and bushings
Rear RS brace
Tein H flex coil overs
Aluminum Radiator
Muffler delete
ECU Tune
Stock wheels
Enkei RPF1 White Wheels
I have almost all the original parts. He also gave me a set of Evo 7 Wheels and tires(which I need to sell when I have more posts)
In about 2 weeks I'll be replacing all the rotors and pads. While I have all that apart I'm going to have the calipers powder coated as close to original as possible. After that most likely do the trans and tcase exchange with either Shep or TRE. I'd like to flush all the fluids for my own piece of mind shortly after.
Got a price of $3,000 to $4,000 to fix every little chip, ding, ping and scrape, tear down and full repaint stock Rally Red. Something I'll probably do over the winter or spring of 2018.
thats pretty cheap for a full respray. I'd do some research on previous cars they painted and how they look. I spent around the same for one of my previous cars, and paint started chipping within a year.

I've known the guy a long time and seen his work through the years. It's At the bottom of my list of things I'm going to do to the car so I have some time.
Painting is all location and who you know dependent really. Local feller I know has a full on high end paint shop in back of his property. He takes on a few cars a year for fun via word of mouth and produces amazing work for fraction of what a body shop would charge for a full respray.
Nice pick up OP. Most evos paint look far better from a distance. Which works cause you'll always be far ahead anyway. Hahaha!!
Nice find. BTW It can be buffed/waxed to look brand new very easily. Obviously that won't fix where paint is missing but the oxidized, faded portions buff out easily with a light cutting pad and cleaner wax.
