I just bought my evo 9 Mr yesterday. And today while I was driving back home my cars temp gauge was in the red area indicating car was over heating. So I stopped at a howdys got off while car still running and noticed the fan wasnt running. So I turned of the car and turned it back on and noticed the temp gauge needle was at the half way mark basically at normal. So I decided to drive it like that just not push it and drive it careful and noticed the needle dropped a little below the half way or normal mark. Is it my censor? Thermo? And why didn't my fan turn on if it was reading hot?

 

start checking wiring and what the actual temperature is

 

Could be a disconnected ground intake manifold to firewall. Could be a bad sender. Could be a blown head gasket - watch for the reservoir filling up.

 

Get a scanner in there and see what the temp is actually reading.
