Lost power on freeway

Hey guys. So i have evo 8 last night i was driving, i was on the freeway getting into the freeway from another freeway so it was a turn i was in 3rd gear shift to 4th and it made a weird noise i had my foot on the gas but it wouldn't accelerate. I started losing power. I pull over on the side. Smoke came out the engine bay not a lot very minimal. I was thinking it was like a vacuum line i checked didnt see anything. I was on the side of the freeway i need to get out. But i would have my car in no speed/neutral idle was fine no trouble. But if i put speed it would bog alot like stalling but wouldnt turn off like. I had to tow it home. So thats the problem what can it be?
any help would work. Thanks in advance

Oil in the crankcase?
Coolant in the radiator?
Accessory belt in place?
Clamps on the intake tight?
Fuel in the tank?
The smoke - what did it smell like? - hot metal, burning oil, burning rubber, burnt clutch

I had a problem like you mentioned but no smoke and same symptoms. My problem was upper intake hose popped off leaving me stranded. Check your hose clamps and should you have a problem clean the surface with alcohol and then apply hairspray and reattach the clamps tightly.
I might have wasted your time by typing this but someone else shared this info on another thread and it saved my rear.

Might as well do a boost leak test. Same thing happened to me. I thought my engine blew the first time it happened

When you feel better go over the usual suspects and maybe you'll find an easy fix. Also, make sure all three gearboxes are topped up with lube.

huge exhaust leak? all that green stuff is probably from radiator cap failing or hose popping off. maybe a blown turbo?

If you were driving and lost power it is probably going to be a blown turbo. Did you notice excessive white smoke coming out of the exhaust? Check for play in the turbo.
