changing tire sizes, two at a time

I am going to move from 235/45 x 17 to 245/40 x 17 but I still have two good tires on the car, do you guys think there would be any issue to run say the 245's on the front until my 235's on the back wear out? or should I run the 245's on the back and the 235's on the front?

Massive massive no no. AWD car needs to have the same tread front & rear. offsets can change, but the contact surface of tyre on road needs to be the same, otherwise you will ruin your trans...

i am by no means an expert, but i have read countless times this is a rule you cannot break on this type of car...

save $200 on some tyres for a few months, or pay thousands rebuilding your trans?

Different size tires are a no-no for the differentials.

Fwiw, not all AWD seem to require square setups, but ours definitely do.

All four have to go at the same time. It sucks when we get a flat on a set of tires with half it's tread left.

Thats interesting about offsets. I knew tires had to be the same but i was under the impression that offsets and everything had to be the same as well?

only the rolling diameter has to be the same. the car has no idea what offset wheels you are running.

+1 all or nothing, you'll regret it if you don't, it could cost much more than the price of the tires for repairs.

I thought a 245/40 is so close to a 235/45 that the tranny wouldn't even notice it?

Depends on the rolling diameters of the specific brand.
