HELP ME I.D exhaust system
Hi everyone,
I purchased this evo and, I am getting ready for a smog check. everything is running great. Can someone tell me if this cat is factory/hi-flow/ or this NOT A CAT?
Please help me I'D anything and everything that may seem off or not factory?
Or does look like Its ready to go?
Also there's tape around this block mounted to the frame. It's connected to the blow-off valve and wastegate. This must be the boost controller? Is this the factory unit? Should I remove tape around it?
California BTW boooo

You don't have to worry about the sniffer for the tailpipe. As long as the CEL is off you'll be fine. Your car does have a non factory down pipe cat. Your car has what looks like a HFC. It's all going to depend on the smog tech.
Looks like your car has a Electronic Boost Controller.
Is your CEL off.?

Im a Calif EvO owner as well
Yeah, the whole exhaust from DP to exhaust tip is not stock. As noted, looks like Mil-Spec hi-flow CAT
That taped up module is the 3 port boost solenoid (not stock) used for the ECU tune. It should have an electrical connection that I dont see. Wonder if its been disabled w/the tape covering the port?
You need to run a sensor check at the OBDII port to ensure all sensors are logged in. Being tuned, they may not be & that would be a flag at any station

I believe the car was tuned before.
Sometimes when I lift off to shift at higher RPM, the "Service Engine Soon" light binks once or twice very quickly. Doesn't that have to be tuned / modified into the programming of the ECU?
I looked up it said high flow cats are not Cali legal?
Guess previous owner put it on and hoped the smog tech'd just glances over that there's a CAT there no problem.

Needs more investigating .
There is no Check Engine Light,
I plugged in a OBDII reader, not stored codes, no pending codes.
Problem is its only showing 3 monitors that are green and ready for smog.
1) Fuel System Monitor (FUE)
2) Misfire Monitor (MIS)
3) Comprehensive Component Monitor (CCM)
I don't see it monitoring CAT , EGR , or anything else for that matter.
I take this as another sign it was definitely tuned, no doubt about it.
I checked and both pre and post Catalytic O2 sensors are plugged in.
Why does it not show up in the OBD scanner?
Is it because of the tuner settings?
This is an automatic fail smog?

Sounds like a knock indicator that tuners usually put in
