I am repairing a damaged Evo 8 and I noticed today when I was installing some parts the steering column\wheel has a decent amount of play side to side, assuming this isn't normal for these cars. What would cause that?

Steering wheel collapsed in the accident as it is supposed to. So far as I know this is not fixable - replacement column is required.
