See...this is what freakin' scares me. A bunch of rookie drivers who are going to get this who've played to much GT3 and think the laws of physics don't apply (as in, "No you can't take a turn at 70 MPH because the tires lost their lateral grip stability, and yes, that's the center divide.).

I think most people here do not "hate" the WRX or Sti for any matter. I follow both WRX and EVO for a long time and appreciated both as much.

While you posted the achievements of some WRXs out there, keep in mind that numerious EVOs are also kicking *** in different areas. Since I'm not that big of a Drag, and top speed fans. I think best time on a certain tracks amuse me a little bit more. But again, no hating, just different prespective

Why would anyone want a Evo over a Subbie? what kind of question is that?! Althought the WRX has better handling then the Evo, the Evo is still faster and has a nicer body. The WRX is just better on the Rally courses because of itz handling.......who is gonna use the Evo for that when it comez here to the US? the only racing that will probably be done here is dragging or street racing and the Evo will kill most cars stock. And the first to come here is the WRX cuz itz already here.

cause most of us out there know that we can get the subie for cheaper and modify it to kill the evo for the price of a evo. And for the really skilled out there will get the 2.5rs and stick shivs turbo on it and then kill both.

Problem with the subbies is the "glass transmission". This reason is pretty much the sole reason that I am looking at the EVO.

Mitsubishi to bring Lancer Evolution to U.S.

Mitsubishi's Lancer Evolution, an all-wheel-drive, high-performance subcompact sedan that has received acclaim in international rally events, will go on sale in the United States next year.

"It will be the flagship for the Mitsubishi brand overall," Pierre Gagnon, president of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America Inc., said Friday, Jan. 4., at the Los Angeles auto show. "It will allow our customers to emulate rally drivers at an affordable price."

Sales begin in January 2003.

The sedan, known by enthusiasts as the "Evo," is powered by a 252-hp 2.0-liter, turbocharged inline four. Recaro seats and Brembo disc brakes are standard.

Gagnon said the car will be priced below $30,000.
That article was originally dated Jan. 14, 2002. It was in the Autoweek that came out right after the LA and Detroit Auto Shows at the beginning of January. Autoweek's website just automatically shows the current date.

I noticed that too. It's a little misleading.

"Do you have any idea how easy and inexpensive it will be to add 20+ hp back into the car? "

Ok, fine. It's just as easy to ad 20 hp to a car that makes 270 hp as it is to add 20 to a car that makes 252. The Subbie will still have the advantage.

As far as handling goes. Well, I personally like a car that handles well. I think both cars have their strengths and weaknesses thats why I'm asking for opinions. I'm gratefull for yours. I'm a bit surprised that the Sti would handle better than the EVO if the Evo does indeed have a stiffer chasis.

I absolutely agree with you. I am infatuated with both machines. But, there is some guy on here, and just because he has an Evo VI, he just keeps talking smack, and it is getting annoying. Those WRX's in Aus. are making around 800 HP. This guy keeps insisting that the 4g63 is a better power plant. At least he could say "Equal". He just keeps ******* WRX's because he has an EVO. I would totally take a BNR32 over both these machines. That would solve everything!

And also, I don't see how you can get much stiffer then the WRX chassis. When I jack up the front wheel, the rear comes off the ground too. Like zero flex. The New Age WRX (GDS/GDB) is 150% stiffer then the GC8.

Make the same mods to the suspension on the EVO as the STI has, and you'll have a much better handling car in the EVO. The suspension design on the Scooby is for dirt, snow, gravel. Unless you do a lot of driving in these types of conditions, the EVO is a much better handling car without the AYC/ACD.

You can modify springs, shocks, dampening rates and even bushings. But I'd like to meet the guy that can modify pivot points and control arm lengths/locations/numbers.

dude lol who cares what they think. if you want to get a sti instead of an evo then go for it. the differences in performance are minimal if none. those guys talking so much **** about the sti are just biased and trying to justify their own purchase cuz they dont want to admit the sti is just as good or they feel threatened by it or something who knows. sure the sti does have a slightly softer ride but at least it wont feel like a ford explorer going over a speed bump and damn that is a pretty rough ride.

I already said this once. I personally feel as though the EVO is a better car. Not because it is better, but because *I* like it better. These cars are so close to identical, it is not funny. Subaru did **** the bit on the soft STi suspension, but for 2 grand (TEIN RA's, or CUSCO Zero 2R's) you have a WORLD CLASS handler anyways. The main reason that I want the Mistu is because Subaru Of America caters to the rainbow crowd, and not the performance crowd. I would be willing to bet you that there are VERY FEW EVO's that have rainbow stickers on them when they come out. I see to many long haired peace loving hippies driving stock WRX's, and that is just a shame! The comment about the justification of the purchase of a EVO is so true. I agree with you 100% that is why they are so biased.

RAINBOW CROWD?! Very very BAAAD!!! NO LIKE!!! There isn't even a subie dealer for a hundred miles outside where I live so I guess I'm lucky not to witness any tree hugging WRX drivers. Maybe it's the happy headlights that attract them. Thank goodness for the EVO's aggressive look.
