anyways- I am stuck thinking between getting a small halon (spelling) extinguisher, and a "elementfire" style chemical one. Can't decide. I am leaning towards the "element" one.
I was thinking if one was trapped in the car, and it was on fire you could use the element system and have no problems breathing it, Halon (Bromotrifluoromethane) however is toxic to humans and you really wouldn't want to breath it, although dying in a fire is probably worse. The other aspect is the mess the halon extinguisher makes. You could still make a cool mount for the stick, its just smaller so you have more places you could put it.

I thought that Halon has been made illegal due to the environmental hazard since many years... at least in EU it is illegal, is it still possible to buy it in the US?

Good question. Here is what some google-fu turned up for me. This is in the U.S.
"Because Halon is a CFC, the production of Halon ceased on January 1, 1994, under the Clean Air Act. There is no cost-effective means of safely and effectively disposing of the Halon that has already been produced, therefore recycling and reusing the existing supply intelligently and responsibly to protect lives and property is the best solution.
The EPA recognizes that that Halon remains the most effective "clean" extinguishing agent available, despite its ozone depleting potential, and there are no federal or state regulations prohibiting the buying, selling or use of Halon extinguishers. All Halon available now is recycled so it is an environmentally responsible choice."
Its actually kind of hard to figure out whats in these things. I looked for the brand of fire extinguisher i have in my house which is "First Alert" and pulled all the data i could on their extinguisher for cars. They don't really tell you whats in it
It doesn't seem though that it contains halon. However they won't tell you what combination of chemicals they have in their powder "A SAFETY DATA SHEET FOR THE DRY CHEMICAL EXTINGUISHING AGENT CONTAINED WITHIN THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER CAN BE OBTAINED BY CONTACTING THE DRY CHEMICAL MANUFACTURE LISTED ON THE LABEL OR CONTACTING FIRST ALERT® AT 1 800 323 9005."
You can still find seat mount adapters on ebay. This is where my usual seat position is and there is still a massive amount of room. I got two for $50AUD earlier this year.
I linked these in a previous post, but to make it easier for folks here are the pics. I don't have any relationship with these guys other then i think it was cool.

I can tig weld so I plan on making an aluminum mount. I just want it to be a sweet setup. I was thinking of going with the elementfire tool, but I'm not sure.

Sweet, I’m digging those! Nice and small and light
