Anyone know a free online "CarFax" VIN database?

I know there are some free ones which will give basic info from the VIN, like https://www.vehiclehistory.com/, but they don't seem to give the full details like CarFax and other paid sites. Great when shopping for a used car.

If you're shopping for a used car and are serious about one you shouldn't have an issue spending $20 to double-check things.

https://www.nicb.org/how-we-help/vincheck

The above will at least give you title status on a vehicle if it's clean or not

I dont trust those vin sites completely. My cousin bought an M3 a couple years back with clean title and zero accidents according to Carfax. A couple months later after owning the car, Carfax reports that it was in an accident some years back!!!!!!!

Regardless of what any car reports say, check the car with the same level of thoroughness as if VIN checking services did not exist.

From what I've seen Carfax charges $39 a pop, not $20. That will really add up if you're considering several used cars, as most buyers do. You can bet it doesn't cost them anywhere near that to provide the info, a lot of which is public data and costs them next to nothing to obtain. And apparently the report often isn't all that accurate. Surprise, surprise. One decent free one I've found is https://vincheck.info/check/vin-check.php. Probably not any more accurate, but at least it's free.

@D2003 vincheckpro, but i highly recommend the Carfax report , because if you ever plan on selling everyone uses what the carfax says. However it is $39 for a single report, but they do offer some sort of unlimited monthly deal
