I have to do that same soon as well. Due to a couple studs breaking and me having attempted every repair I could think of to not get the tank to leak when full at this point. =( But I assure you I have scoured every inch of the internet over years (as I have procrastinated paying for this project) and the first link posted above is the closest to any how to you will find currently on the internet. when you do it if you post any helpful hints/ tips pics/ process that would be great!

FYI, it sucks to do. I built an entire evo roller and i swear the gas tank was the worst part. But maybe that is just because i didn't think it would go to bad and one thing just led to another.

Anyways, these might help a bit.

The worst part for me was removing the fuel fill tubes. real pain to get to.

do you happen to know the part number so I don't have to look it up? What tools would you use to get it off without cutting?

I think the item he cut was probably 05016. The fuel filler neck. But maybe he will chime in and confirm. I am just trying to be prepared for when I do it and document this for anyone in future.

05015 and 05014 in the diagram above are what gave me issues.

05015 = oem part number MN106218 (cost around $16)
05014 = oem part number is MN106217 (cost around $60)

To anyone dropping the tank, i'd order both of these items.

05016 comes up as: Mitsubishi MN120030 (still apprears to be an obtainable part)
