GSR or MR?

VIN comes back MR but my 2006 EVO has a sunroof so according to the link below it's a GSR. Knocking on the roof sounds different than knocking on the doors so do I have an aluminum roof? I used a magnet on both and it pulls and Mr google says aluminum is NOT magnetic

Sunroof = SSL (sun, sound, leather). No MR never had a sunroof.

Looks like he already checked w/a magnet besides he's got an OEM sunroof

If you really want a treat, the OP should have gotten the RS (no sound, no sun & no leather)

Those websites don't always have their information correct. I wouldn't go by that.
If your car had an aluminum roof, it wouldn't have a sunroof. And the magnet makes it obvious, of course.

Sun roof, leather, different stereo system, etc is the SSL package mentioned above, avail on the GSR.

An Evo 9 RS would be amazing. Mostly because they only made something like 370 of them (or something).

Yeah, when i bought mine 11 years ago, i had no idea what i was even looking at. I first thought someone de-winged it & gutted the trunk. The salesmen had to explain

I have really taken to the RS model & wouldnt have it any other way (the only tunes you hear are those NVH's from all the mechanicals

And saves you all time and effort the rest of us had to invest to get ours to that point. LOL. Removing sound deadening material is NOT fun. I'd trade having that all removed for having to drill holes for the wing. More than a fair trade.
Unless it's an RS with no A/C. That's where I draw the line

My only gripe with the RS is lack of ABS as that's a nanny that I actually happen to like. Otherwise so true Im over here prepping to remove my roof in favor of an AL one to end up with an SSL minus sunroof leather seats and a sub. Yeah I did it wrong...

Not flat spotting tires is kinda nice AL roof is good to have. I thought about going CF but the weight savings wasn't worth the cost. Ditching the sunroof should help you out quite a bit. Starting with the SSL and going light weight is definitely the thougher way to do things LOL.

Often I do not like ABS but Evo ABS is stunningly good ... don't think anything short of a Porsche motorppsort ABS comes close.

I often ask myself if ABS is worth it? I’ve owned several cars with it and without it, I’ve almost never had to use it or rely on it. I think inexperienced drivers rely on it to save themselves or believe it will. Good tires with good brakes and a non panic reaction will net the best results. Do auto insurance companies provide a discount for having “ABS” ? In most modern cars it is standard so doesn’t apply, I assume. Many tests have been done to prove it is effective though. I tend to think if a person is in a situation where ABS is activetated, they have blown the corner or made a big mistake etc. Gaining control of the car is key “ABS” can help but I’ve seen first hand the person is still in a panic state when the “brake pulsating” sends a panic or scare to the
driver as they are expecting the car to stop suddenly. Sliding without ABS, you can pulsate the pedal to get a similar result but not nearly as reliable. I don’t like ABS, I prefer to rely on not panicking and find an out.

Yeah, my fellow RS owner

My daily has ABS & the stability system. Hate both of those systems & would rather not have them (frequently activate both systems) (not needed IMO)

But, there must be something to the EvO ABS system, where the 2017 winner of the Optima Battery Ultimate Street Car winner added the system to his EvORS. He's apparently quicker on the Track / AX & brake stop competition w/it

Thread has gone off course, sorry OP, but he may have left the house anyway

I wouldn't really expect Most OEM systems to work well for motorsport applications since it's a safety item. A judicious foot is always better.
I wish I knew it I'd ha've the presence of mind to simulate ABS in a panic stop situation, if I didn't have it.
I'll keep it to save my tires and "just in case". I haven't had it kick in, yet. Maybe I need to brake harder 😂
