Launching Evo 9 at Dragstrip
Launching Evo 9 at Dragstrip
Hello everyone! This past summer I went to the drag strip and accomplished a few ten second passes. I feel as if the car can reach 9’s if I could launch better. I spun it in frist gear almost every time so slicks would help me. I bogged almost everytime on my launches too. I didn’t dump my triple disk either and road it a lot in my opinion. Is there a special trick to getting the car to launch right? Anyone use the ebrake to load the engine up while launching? Also how do you all do burnouts to warm the tires up, just dump the clutch? Car has dynoed 776WHP/684lbft.
There's many variables to accomplishing a "good" launch. Some will consider 1.6x 60' times good, while others will say 1.5x and 1.4x are ideal. Variables such as track conditions, tires, suspension, launch RPM, 2-step boost buildup will all play a factor. Unfortunately it's all trial and error and you'll have to find what works. Look at your 60 foot times to give you an understanding if there's room for improvement. As for preloading whiles using the ebrake, that's recommended to get the drivetrain engaged but don't plan on doing a burnout, your best bet is to use a soft compound tire that requires little to no burnout. Good luck!
