Evo 10 Steering Wheel in a 9
Evo 10 Steering Wheel in a 9
Is it possible to have an evo 10 steering wheel in an evo 9, i like all the controls that come with the evo 10 steering wheel but i love the evo 9 more than the 10, is there a way of of doing it?
Possibly. Most likely they're both spline shaft, so it's a matter of finding out if the 9 spline shaft would mate with the X wheel. If not, you could also buy something like an NRG quick release adapter and attach the right size spline to that (welding required).
Then there's the matter of the airbag most likely not working at all, and whether you could make any of the buttons do anything.
It's a long shot for not much gain. Not even sure if the 9 had cruise control, and the only other thing the buttons did is control the radio/volume.

Not too fussed about the airbag so thats okay, sadly evo 9 doesnt have cruise control but i know there are kits that can be installed for that, would it be hard to wire/program the buttons to do the right things?
Depends on what you mean "right things". Do you mean adding cruise to a 9? I think that's been done, and you might be able to use those buttons to control cruise.
Alternately, I think it's possible to map the keys to any functions you want. You'd need some sort of a controller (like an axxess ASWC-1, or an i-datalink). All depends on what you want to do with those buttons, and what equipment you have, like which stereo, etc. You'll have to do a good amount of research in any case.

I know pretty much all VW owners avoided doing this but they would either 3D print or buy a nice plastic cover to replace the controls. Personally I am into computers and such so the button mapping to me does not seem as hard as some people make it. I mean aren't most buttons even these days still basic on/off switches that can be wired to any on/off device? You probably will have to do some soldering, learn about circuit boards and so on but if you want it and the actual spline fits then why not? I wouldnt mind going from my lancer looking GTA steering wheel to the Momo Evo 9 wheel but here they require licensed people to deal with air bags and such because of how dangerous they can be. You can do stuff like replace the buttons with a clock and another with a boost gauge or even some type of techy port/immobilizer. Learning about circuits and such opens a whole new list of creative opportunities. Never listen to Volkswagen owners because they're a follower type crowd that will pay $2000 more for a turbo named Garrett than Borg Warner which is a no name brand according to them, HAH! What asses they can be.
If you can think it up, you can make it happen. A micro controller can decipher and convert signals from a X steering wheel to anything you connect it to (like the before mentioned axxess ASWC-1,or i-datalink). They are likely just simple push button switch signals. If you really want the airbag to work, you can try swapping the IX airbag into the X wheel. I'm sure it's not that simple.

You'd need a custom steering column or to Frankenstein the X when onto an VIII/IX wheel hub which is rather scary.
Evo VIII/IX uses a pinch bolt and channel to attach the wheel to the column, Evo X uses a threaded shaft and nut to attach the wheel.
