Evo8 shuttering under acceleration at low rpm

Hi all,

I am having this issue with my mates evo8 mr (jap spec upgraded 4 months ago). The car started to shutter under acceleration (particularly at low rpms) and the exhaust note has considerably gotten louder. The car “seems” to have lost power yet I’m also hesitate to give it a decent hit (currently not driving it). Felt sluggish at low rpm for sure when I last drove it. My mate had a chat with his mechanic over the phone and he suggested it is most probably bad fuel and I should just run it out (not bother bringing it to him). Wondering if anyone has ever experienced this before? Last thing I would want to do is more damage and still have half a tank left.

Thanks for any help in advance.
Clueless evo fan stupidly borrowing my mates car

Kind of hard to dignose over the internet. Is the TPS voltage good? Can you grab a cam position sensor off another car and try it? Are the plugs old? Try a boost leak test first.
