I have a 2005 Evo 8 MR and live in California. With the new smog stuff happening and my car passes smog with the ecu in it now. I am going to look for another ecu to use for tuning so I don’t have to deal with the smog issue. The main question is will any evo 8 ecu work with my car or does it need to be the same year and also the MR edition ecu for it to work properly? Thank you guys in advance.

I thought the 8mr ECU uses the same plugs as the 9, so any 8 ECU will not work? Or is that not true for USDM cars?

 

I thought that was just a rumor? Was looking at pinouts a couple weeks back and attempting to find additional ADCs and that was mentioned but think like you said it wasnt the case with USDM models.

 

I know for sure its different in other markets. Haltech sells their ECU's as being for Evo8, or Evo9 and 8mr.

 

The JDM 8MR shares the 3 plug ECU. Afaik it was only a JDM thing.

 

So any Evo 8 Ecu should work for the 8 MR?

 

Yes. This is the ECU from a friends 8MR. It’s only the JDM 8MR that has a 3 plug ECU.
