if money is no issue, then they are basically interchangeable. So find the cleanest one you can and commence dumping money into it

If money is no issue then get a 9 just because it was only sold for one year and it has a little more than the last iteration of the 8.
In reality like the other guy said I would just get the best example that comes up.

Mivec is the better engine. But the best example is probably the way to go. Maybe think about importing an older evo?

From what I understand is if you plan to stick to minor mods, the 9 with mivec will give you more WHP due to having a larger turbo. Also, the mivec spools the turbo faster. If you are not too worried about Mods, or plan to go extreme, i would just find the cleanest one you can find as has already been mentioned.

I would have liked to have a sunroof and the leather recaro seats, but both 8 and 9 have that available. Im just glad i bought mine when i did as it was bone stock with 38k miles back in 2008.

There was that one year of Evo 8's coming with a 10.5 turbo, but Mivec is still the move.

mivec swap isn't that expensive, especially compared to fixing a beat up evo. So really just getting something rust/accident free that has been well maintained should be the priority.
