Hello all, as a silent reader i first wanted to thank you all for the information on this forum. Finally I'm trying to make my dream come true. A red Evo ix. I got some fotos from a dealer. What do you say about it? Is the underbody in a good condtion. The car should has ca. 45k km. Thanks JOGA
Try to take pictures and notice these spots + front radiator support at top and bottom + front strut towers on surface. It looks like it did have aftermarket rustproofing so it may be like new underneath (or covered up by the oil/rubber used). First pic look at where the control arm and rear subframe attaches to the unibody at the bracket. Second pic, chassis frame rails (boxed section). My car is a 2006 IX w/65k miles (104k km).
Generally I have a decent idea of the condition of a Evo's underbody by the front upper radiator support (rust around bolt holes) and front strut towers.
The car is red? I didn't even know lol. But it looks like it's in very good condition from a rust standpoint. Minor surface rust. You can (with a lot of effort) take all that rust proofing off, treat the small rust spots and it would look great. Worst spot for rust I found was actually front lower rad support.
That is rust free compared to my car LOL. But yea, just keep an eye on it and take preventative caution now, especially if you decide to drive it through snow. It will get you quick.
Looks to be in very good & stock condition. Even the undertray is still there @JOGA
The EvO has spent all of its time in Germany? What de-icing chemicals do they use in Germany (salt, chlorides?)
The under body appears to have been undercoated & is dirty but i dont see any severe rusting
Thank you all for the support.
Yes I think the Evo was all the time in Germany. But I have to investigate on that. Normally there are lots of problems with rust especially with the pump in Germany due to the salt they are using. I only know that is quite aggressive and has additions of magnesium clorid and magnesium kainite.
Can the rust on the hook, that seems not problematic at all, be interpreted in general of how the car was treated?
All the bolts in front of the hood and especially the 2 black supports (MR464628 it seems) are rusted. Is this normal or especially a sign for driving during winters?

Others may disagree, but those pics are similar to what you see on a NE car that has been driven through salty winters for a season or two.
The car is fine, but you will need to take immediate steps to prevent it from getting worse. At this point, undercoating is likely a bad choice because unless the prep is flawless, the moisture will be trapped and any rust underneath will continue spreading.
Your main area of care is the frame and any parts that cannot be replaced easily. The area near the rear subframe mounting and toe arm mount are known to get bad really quickly.
Fluid film has worked for me, but you have other options
What do you guys think regarding the engine compartment?
I think it looks very good. Aside from needing a detailing, all the stock pieces appear to be there! Looks like there have been
no engine bay changes which is nice to see
