Holy chit man. Just sell your car now. Please. NO. Your car will NOT pass SMOG on SD. Doesn't matter how stock you make your car look. If it has been tuned, then the CAL ID has been changed as a result and you will fail SMOG. Please search in the Tuning and EcuFlash forums for "Cal ID" and "Calibration ID" and start reading. Sorry to be snippy but you really shouldn't have a modded car (or be modding a car) in CA unless you know the impact of what you are doing with respect to passing SMOG.
I owned 2011 Evo x gsr for 7 years and have been modified with HMI 18k and tuned it and still passed smog and that because Evo x MAf can handle more power without the need to go speed density. My Evo 9 now tuned and still pass smog, it not the first time I modified the car in California.

Let's just say it is a challenge. Some are innovative and live up to it..... others don't. I have lived here since the 70's and have dealt with it and have had several modified cars. You just have to be smarter then the average bear.
It's just more difficult. I wouldn't call it nightmare mode, maybe hard or advanced. Nobody is going to chop your arm off for deleting your EGR or anything. Usually what happens if you get busted is you have to get inspected and perhaps pay a fine. Reverting everything back to stock for the inspection is probably the most painful part.
Just figured it out how to get around it lol, Evo 9 not as picky as Evo x on the tuning scale with the upgrade cams, just not too aggressive to run on stock ecu, just need to put back some other stock stuff lol
