Evo 8 RPM Gauge Reading Incorrectly
Evo 8 RPM Gauge Reading Incorrectly
Hello all! I am a new owner of a 2003 Evo VIII and so far I am in love. I was fully aware this car would have some little issues and I’m not afraid to tackle them. Now I would like to think I’m pretty competent but from all the research I have done, I cannot find any information on it. My RPM gauge reads significantly lower that the actual engine. At idle, the needle sits on zero. Anywhere around 1000 rpm is when the gauge starts to register. It seems to stay fairly consistent, almost like it’s not calibrated correctly. The only other current issue that I am aware of is something is wrong with the wheel speed sensor because my anti-lock light comes on after I reach highway speeds, but I wouldn’t think that would affect my RPM reading but I really haven’t done much investigating on it. Any and all information would be helpful. Thank you.
Get a tactrix cable and log. Any codes or dash lights staying on? Check grounds and connections. So like, standard diagnostic procedure...though I feel like if you search this might have been covered in some form or another. Definitely weird.
Yeah I’m starting to realize a Tactrix Cable is more of a necessity than a quality of life upgrade. I have an egr insufficient flow and a catalytic converter code. I also believe the wheel speed sensor is not operating properly because the antilock light comes on after driving over 45mph for a minute or so. I’ve owned a GSX and 3KGT VR-4 so I’m fairly familiar with grounding and electrical issues but they both had an issue where the rpm gauge was reading high and I had to manually reset the needle but it’s never been low. I’ve really tried to do some of my own research but nothing I’ve found has really helped me. I’ll go through and make sure nothing was left unplugged or exposed.
