Back to the forum

Well guys, I am back to the forum again. Been out since Dec 2019. It has been a good break. Still own my EVO. I am reaching 120k miles on it and want to refresh the good old faithful car. Currently in the MD area of Baltimore/DC area. Any good EVO shops in the area that anyone recommends? My goal is to get timing belt change #2 done, all the belts and tensioners that go with that maintenance job, get new seals where needed, replace any components if needed, such as oil pump, water pump, etc, and fix my oil pressure sensor. I have the light on and checked the location, it is leaking, but pressure is G2G. Look forward to the feedback.

Great to be back!!

Depends on how much money you are wanting to spend. I'd say whatever maintenance parts you can obtain, obtain them now. They are quickly disappearing. I'd suggest coolant hoses, turbo air hoses, pull and check the drive shaft, at 120K mine had a bad u-joint. If original, consider replacing the radiator, thermostat and cap. This might seem a little odd, but at 120K I replaced the crank pulley, belt tensioner and idler. I also did new rotors and pads all around. At about that same time I found the engine end motor mount was bad.

Welcome back.

You might also take a look at suspension bushings if they are original. Tie rods, Fr/Rr ball joints. Wheel bearings are probably fine especially if you aren't going to the track, but check for excessive play. Clean and lube door seals, moldings. Check all the plastic and rubber stuff. Ditto the engine/trans mounts and all the other suggestions above ^^^.

Yea I have been battling a OEM parts shortage trying to rebuild an Evo X. Even Evo X OEM parts are hard to track down right now and some parts are being discontinued. Evo 8/9 OEM parts have been easy to find in comparison which is strange. Its not just Mitsubishi though it's happening with all major car manufacturers. The pandemic has screwed up the supply chains.

I would order an OEM cam belt and pully replacement kit and do it all yourself, plenty of forum info on how to do this.

Welcome back, I myself been out for a while but I still have the Evo and also in the DMV area.

I took my car to Lonnie at LMW (https://lmwautorepair.com/) a decade ago and they are still in business. They did my clutch and timing belt/pulley/tensioner/water pump. Last time i called them they supply the parts and I already had ordered them so i went to UCS in Beltsville but they are now closed.

You can also try calling Pure, Kinetic, JE Import Performance, Elite Auto in Laurel, Hills Garage -- the last two are Nissan-based but i believe they can also work on Evos.

Good luck and hope to bump into you around the area.

Moore Automotive in Gainesville VA which is probably very far from you but I think they arguably might be one of the better shops in the area specifically for EVOs. TPG tuning is also another great Evo shop but they are in PA.
