Fuel pressure problem
Ok so here goes. I finally get my new starter for the evo, and I took to my girlfriends house and I notice that something isn't right. I thought maybe being it has only seen pump fuel once that maybe black **** built up. So with that said I drove to my tuner to see if he can help me figure it out. He said tune is ok that it may be mechanical. Being he is extremely busy due to his mechanic is on his honey moon I wasn't going to waste any more of his time. Long story short I started losing fuel pressure pretty quick. The car would not even idle. I got the car to my driveway and it would not start anymore. No more fuel prime and 0 fuel pressure. So I come to the conclusion I ended up burning up a fuel pump somehow. Thankfully I had another 525 laying around for my stealth that I borrowed. So I got it installed it and checked out the line from the sending unit to the pump and there was no holes that I could see, so I replaced it just in case there was something I couldn't see. Boy I will say for such a nice piece it was a pain in the *** to swap out that pump. So after that I started the car I had fuel pressure. Ok great took it for a drive and fuel pressure at 50 lbs and rises as I make boost. Ok great car is fixed.
So that comes to yesterday. I noticed that my fuel pressure on the ic7 is dropping again as I get towards atmospheric pressure. Ok wtf, so I jacked the car up and took out the fuel filter and cleaned it up with some carb cleaner. Used about half a can and it really wasn't that dirty. Mind you car has pump gas in currently being it has been stupid cold here in Michigan on and off. The other reason is well I figured black **** may have gunked up the injectors. So after I get that done I take it for a drive. Car acts normal and after about 2 mins got to atmospheric and fuel pressure drops. Ok wtf. So I get the car home and check out the line going to the afpr from the intake mani. Being all the ports are under the intake mani not easy to get to but everything checked out ok which leads me to the afpr. It is a used Magnus unit that was on MAPs drag car back in the day. Needless to say I think that is the problem. My quesion is what unit should I go with being I have a -10 feed and -8 return? I was looking at the Areomotive, the Fuel Lab, Weldon and I dont know which to go with. What do you guys think?
