HKS head gasket or OEM high boost

Did anyone used Hks gasket with good results? I always used oem evo 9 head gaskets but I am building 1000whp engine and I was reading on Hp Academy that Andre was using Hks gasket with great results up to 55psi boost. I have o-rings in block and I am thinking if I should stay with oem or try Hks gasket. Thanks!

I have not tested it to 50+ psi, but Andre is a very intelligent resource. The OEM MLS head gasket can work fine into that power level. It's really more about how well you can clamp the cylinder head evenly to the shortblock and seal the cylinders. Are you using ARP Custom Age 625+ head studs with slightly oversized washers? Some even drill for oversized head studs, but I don't know anybody who's done it. The HKS hg is $250 - $300 where as the oem hg is about $100. No reason to upgrade if you've never had an issue with it.

Thanks a lot for reply. Yes I am using Arp custom age 625 head studs and I am using oversized washers, I actually machined 25mm washers to 24mm to fit there. The biggest washers you can buy from arp are 22.5mm which I think work but I wanted to have as big washers as possible to fit there, the one's that are included in the package are 20,5mm so I ordered 25mm washers from arp and machined them to 24mm. I will also use oversize Arp nuts because the ones that comes with studs are so tiny. I actually ordered nuts from Mc master carr just to try and to see what will I get and to my surprise I received nuts with stamp arp on them with same thread as the old ones of course (7/16-20) so now I will use 5/8 socket to torque it instead of 1/2 socket for the little nuts. I actually ordered Hks hg couple moths before and I have it but I am considering if I should use it or not because look like everyone is using stock hg. I personally only used oem hg and never had a problem at 750whp but now on new engine I am trying to push to 950-1000whp and I am considering hks gasket. Thanks!!!

Yeah I am sure the will both do the job, but the thing that needs to be addressed would be the o ringing for sure. I think with the pressures that are being created in the block good chance of head lifting if not addressed. Its better to be safe then sorry ya know.

Yes I always put orings in the bock with around 0.004 protrusion. The problem is machine shop did orings in the block for oem gasket, than if I take hks gasket than those orings kinda seating where the grove is in the hks gasket. Will it work probably will is it in perfect location I am not sure.

It's the little sleeves in the block that is used to guide I'm guessing the head studs into the block.
